Small-sized three-element antenna

HF Antenna Section. Two American shortwaves Myers (W1FBY) and Rusgrove (WA1LNQ) developed a small-sized three-element antenna for the 20 m band. A significant reduction in its size was achieved through the use of inductors and capacitive elements. All main dimensions of the antenna are shown in the figure ... >>

Reflectometer for measuring SWR in the frequency range 1-60 MHz. Power 0,001-200 watts

Section Measuring technology. The current transformer T1 is made on a ferrite ring M1000-3000NM (A.1) K12x6x4,5. The primary winding with PEV-2 wire with a diameter of 1,5 mm is one turn. The secondary winding is made with PEV-2 wire with a diameter of 0,22 mm in two wires, three twists per 1 cm, - 10 turns. Connect the beginning of one wire to the end of another to obtain a midpoint according to the circuit diagram. The voltage transformer T2 is made on a similar ferrite ring and contains one winding with a tap, - 19 turns + 1 turn with MGTF-0,07 wire. The balance of the reflectometer is performed at a frequency of 29 MHz, at a matched load of 50 ohms, with a tuning resistor SP3-19b 470 ohms. All resistors with a power of at least 0,25 watts. 120 ohm resistors must be selected with a minimum spread in value for better balancing of the reflectometer ... >>

Welding machine assembled from parts of old TVs

Section Welding equipment. Many in the household would need an apparatus for electric welding of parts made of ferrous metals. Since mass-produced welding machines are quite expensive, many radio amateurs undertake to manufacture them on their own. This article is about one of these devices. From the very beginning of my work, I set myself the task of creating the most simple and cheap welding machine using widely used parts and assemblies in it. Of the two main options for the design of the apparatus - with a welding transformer or based on a converter - the second one was chosen. Indeed, a welding transformer is a large and heavy magnetic core and a lot of copper wire for windings, which is inaccessible to many. The electronic components for the converter, with the right choice, are not scarce and relatively cheap. ... >>

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

brain temperature 08.06.2022

Scientists from the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of the Medical Research Council in Cambridge were able to measure the temperature of the human brain.

Forty volunteers aged 20-40 years were recruited, whose brains were scanned in the morning, afternoon and late evening using magnetic resonance spectroscopy. At the same time, an activity monitoring device was attached to the wrist of the participants in the experiment, which makes it possible to take into account differences in genetics and lifestyle - the biological clocks of "owls" and "larks" work differently.

The temperature of the organ varies depending on the region of the brain, age, gender, time of day and the menstrual cycle in women.

The average brain temperature was 38,5 degrees, more than two degrees above the temperature measured under the tongue.

The surface of the brain was generally colder, while the deeper structures of the brain were often warmer than 40 degrees (the record during the study was 40,9 degrees).

The temperature of the brain constantly changed depending on the time of day by almost one degree, while the highest was observed during the day, and the lowest was at night.

It is noteworthy that, on average, the female brain was 0,4 degrees warmer than the male.

Experts believe that this gender difference is most likely due to the menstrual cycle, since most of the participants in the study were scanned in the post-ovulatory phase of their cycle: their brain temperature was about 0,4 degrees higher than that of women who were in the pre-ovulation phase.

The temperature of the brain increased with the age of the participants, especially in the deep regions of the brain.
