Simple solutions have certain drawbacks. The most important of them is that a photovoltaic pump or air conditioner can only work during the daytime and in the light of the sun. To compensate for this shortcoming, a battery is connected to the system. It is charged by a solar generator, stores energy and makes it available at any time. Even in the most adverse conditions and in remote locations, photovoltaic energy stored in batteries can power the necessary equipment. Thanks to the accumulation of electricity, photovoltaic systems provide a reliable source of power day and night, in any weather. Battery-powered photovoltaic systems power lighting, sensors, sound recording equipment, household appliances, telephones, televisions and power tools around the world.

The solar module generates direct current, usually 12V. There are many electrical appliances - lamps, TVs, refrigerators, fans, tools, etc., that operate on 12V DC. However, most household electrical appliances still use 110 or 220 In AC. Battery photovoltaic systems can be adapted to power AC or DC equipment. Those who wish to use conventional AC appliances must add to the system, between the battery and the load, a power control unit - the so-called inverter. Although some energy is lost in the process of converting direct current to alternating current, thanks to the inverter, photovoltaic energy can be used on an equal basis with the usual utility power supply (powering household appliances, lighting fixtures or computers).

The system is arranged as follows: the photovoltaic module is connected to the battery, and that, in turn, to the load. During the daytime, photovoltaic modules charge the battery. Energy is supplied to the load as needed. Using a simple charge controller, the battery is charged to the required degree. At the same time, its life is extended, protection against overload and full discharge is provided. The battery is able to expand the scope of the photovoltaic panel, but requires some maintenance. Photovoltaic batteries are similar to car batteries. Like car batteries, they require care in handling and storage. It is necessary to periodically check the liquid level in leaking batteries, in addition, they must be protected from low temperatures.

A solar generator with a battery provides the user with electricity when it is needed. The amount of stored electricity depends on the power of the photovoltaic modules and on the type of battery. Expanding the module or adding batteries increases the cost of the system, so power consumption must be carefully considered to determine the optimal system size. A well-designed system determines the optimal balance of cost and convenience in meeting the user's electrical needs, as well as the ability to expand the system.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

New low-level API will reduce the power consumption of ARM chips 13.04.2015

The market for wearable smart devices is growing, but its growth is constrained by the lack of any visible progress in the field of power supplies, and, as a result, a relatively short operating time. Developers understand this and are doing their best to reduce the power consumption of such devices.

ARM has taken a new step in this direction. ARM Cortex-M processors will receive a Silicon Labs EFM32 Gecko power management microcontroller and the corresponding low-level API.

Both companies, ARM and Silicon Labs, plan to use a bunch of these chips in a new generation of devices that form what is called the "Internet of Things" (Internet of Things, IOT). Unfortunately, Silicon Labs has not yet published details on exactly what level of savings it plans to achieve, but mentioned that the new API will allow for automatic smart sleep mechanism and power distribution depending on the level of activity of specific system components.

Preliminary tests of the "optimum sleep" system showed an impressive increase in efficiency: the LCD module consumed 1,03 milliamps before it was turned on, and after activation, the current it consumed in sleep mode dropped to 0,1 milliamps, that is, an order of magnitude. A very impressive achievement.

New software and hardware with such capabilities will be in high demand in the world of smartphones and tablets, however, for now, both companies will concentrate their efforts on its implementation in the world of the Internet of Things.
