A simple adjustable power supply on the L4960 chip, 5,1-40 volts 2,5 amps

Section Power supplies. Modern circuitry and microcircuit manufacturers have greatly facilitated the life of the designer - for example, when creating power supplies. Let's demonstrate this on the L4960 chip. According to the factory documentation, it can be used to produce an adjustable power supply with an output voltage of 5,1 ... 40V, with a load current of 2,5 A, built-in current and overheat protection, efficiency up to 90%. Power dissipation with a radiator - 15 watts, HEPTAWATT case, conversion frequency 50..150 kHz ... >>

Economical high-power LED luminaire for ham radio assembly table

Section Lighting. The article describes a simple and very effective lamp based on a matrix of three powerful white LED lamps. Have you ever seen super-bright LED flashlights? Powerful LED lamps have nothing to do with them. Powerful LED lamps are based on silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor crystals and have several advantages compared to similar silicon products: maximum MTBF, low supply voltage, instant ignition, full extinction, no lead and mercury, electrostatic resistance more than 2 kV, a lens built into the housing, which makes it easy to match the crystal with any optical system, a small area of the housing base. The appearance of the 1 W LED lamp is shown in fig. 1 ... >>

Short circuit currents

Section Electrician's Handbook. A short circuit (short circuit) is the connection of current-carrying parts of different phases or potentials to each other or to the equipment case connected to the ground, in power supply networks or in power receivers. A short circuit can occur for various reasons: deterioration of the insulation resistance in a humid or chemically active environment, with unacceptable overheating of the insulation, mechanical influences, erroneous actions of personnel during maintenance and repair, etc. As can be seen from the very name of the process, during a short circuit, the current path is shortened, i.e. it goes bypassing the load resistance, so it can increase to unacceptable values if the voltage is not turned off under the action of protection ... >>

The speech of sperm whales is similar to that of humans 18.05.2024

In the world of the ocean, where the mysterious and unknown coexists with the studied, sperm whales, with their huge brains, are of particular interest to science. Researchers, working with a huge array of audio recordings collected during the Dominica Sperm Whale Project (DSWP) - more than 8000 recordings, seek to unravel the secrets of their communication and understand the structure and complexity of the language of these mysterious creatures. By studying in detail the recordings of 60 sperm whales in the eastern Caribbean, scientists have revealed surprising features of their communication, revealing the complexity of their language. "Our observations indicate that these whales have a highly developed combinatorial communication system, including rubato and ornaments, which indicates their ability to quickly adapt and vary during communication. Despite significant differences in evolution, sperm whales have elements in their communication that are characteristic of human communication," says Shane Gero, a biologist at Carleton University and director of the CETI project. Electron spin for quantum information transfer 18.05.2024

The transfer of quantum information remains one of the key tasks of modern science. Recent advances in the use of electron spin to expand the capabilities of information transfer in quantum systems have become very important. Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory are pushing the frontiers of quantum information science by experimenting with the possibilities of electron spin. Electron spin, a natural quantum bit, is a potentially powerful means for storing and transmitting information in quantum systems. Magnon wave packets, collective excitations of electron spin, have revealed their potential to transmit quantum information over significant distances. The work of Berkeley Lab researchers has revolutionized the way such excitations propagate in antiferromagnets, opening up new prospects for quantum technologies. Using pairs of laser pulses, scientists disrupted antiferromagnetic order in one place and simultaneously studied it in another, creating ... >>

Sound-absorbing silk 17.05.2024

In a world where noise is becoming increasingly intrusive, the emergence of innovative materials that can reduce its impact is of great interest. MIT researchers have unveiled a new sound-absorbing silk fabric that promises to revolutionize quiet spaces. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has made significant breakthroughs in the field of sound absorption. Researchers have developed a special silk fabric that can effectively absorb sound and create cozy, quiet environments. The fabric, thinner than a human hair, contains a unique vibrating fiber that is activated when voltage is applied to it. This feature allows the fabric to be used to suppress sound waves in two different ways. The first method uses fabric vibrations to generate sound waves that cover and cancel out unwanted noise, similar to noise-canceling headphones. This p ... >>

Receiver of different communication protocols 26.02.2001

Sony Computer Science Laboratories has created a prototype of the SOPRANO software radio receiver. The name is short for Software Programmable and Hardware Reconfigurable Architecture for Network.

The software performs the functions of signal modulation and demodulation, as well as a number of other basic functions of the radio receiver. This solution will allow one receiver to support various radio protocols. The receiver operates in the 0,5-9 GHz frequency range, covering all digital mobile communication standards of the current and next, third generations, as well as Bluetooth and wireless local area networks. A frequency conversion IC has been released for the receiver using Multiport Direct Conversion technology.

The circuit has dimensions of 2,4x1,8 mm and is made using 0,5 µm GaAs bipolar transistor technology.
