Antenna Watchdog

Section Television antennas. Recently, a new type of theft has become popular - the theft of expensive individual industrial-made antennas with antenna amplifiers installed on the roofs of multi-storey buildings. This usually happens at the moment when the programs are not being watched, and their owners will only find out about the absence of the antenna by turning on the TV. The burglar alarm device I propose sounds an alarm when you try to turn off the television antenna or break the power cable. It is distinguished by reliability, simple design, a wide range of supply voltages, small size, does not require scarce parts and can be assembled even by a novice radio amateur. ... >>

High Efficiency Single Ended Converters, 12/220 Volts

Section Voltage converters, rectifiers, inverters. Some familiar household electrical appliances, such as a fluorescent lamp, a photo flash, and a number of others, can sometimes be conveniently used in a car. Since most devices are powered by a mains voltage of 220 V, a step-up converter is needed. An electric shaver or a small fluorescent lamp consumes no more than 6 ... 25 watts of power. In this case, such a converter often does not require an alternating voltage at the output. The above household electrical appliances normally operate when powered by direct or unipolar pulsating current. ... >>

Electric meter connection

Section Electric meters. Installation and connection of the electric meter does not cause difficulties. The shield with the meter must be installed on four rollers (at the corners of the shield) in the room, near the place where the electrical wiring from the common apartment meter passes. You need to connect the electric meter according to the diagram below (Fig. 1). Counter check. Accounting for electricity consumed by all appliances and lamps available in the apartment is made by electricity meters. According to their testimony, the payment for the use of electricity is calculated. If there are doubts about the correctness of the meter readings, it can be easily checked ... >>

The speech of sperm whales is similar to that of humans 18.05.2024

In the world of the ocean, where the mysterious and unknown coexists with the studied, sperm whales, with their huge brains, are of particular interest to science. Researchers, working with a huge array of audio recordings collected during the Dominica Sperm Whale Project (DSWP) - more than 8000 recordings, seek to unravel the secrets of their communication and understand the structure and complexity of the language of these mysterious creatures. By studying in detail the recordings of 60 sperm whales in the eastern Caribbean, scientists have revealed surprising features of their communication, revealing the complexity of their language. "Our observations indicate that these whales have a highly developed combinatorial communication system, including rubato and ornaments, which indicates their ability to quickly adapt and vary during communication. Despite significant differences in evolution, sperm whales have elements in their communication that are characteristic of human communication," says Shane Gero, a biologist at Carleton University and director of the CETI project. Electron spin for quantum information transfer 18.05.2024

The transfer of quantum information remains one of the key tasks of modern science. Recent advances in the use of electron spin to expand the capabilities of information transfer in quantum systems have become very important. Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory are pushing the frontiers of quantum information science by experimenting with the possibilities of electron spin. Electron spin, a natural quantum bit, is a potentially powerful means for storing and transmitting information in quantum systems. Magnon wave packets, collective excitations of electron spin, have revealed their potential to transmit quantum information over significant distances. The work of Berkeley Lab researchers has revolutionized the way such excitations propagate in antiferromagnets, opening up new prospects for quantum technologies. Using pairs of laser pulses, scientists disrupted antiferromagnetic order in one place and simultaneously studied it in another, creating ... >>

Sound-absorbing silk 17.05.2024

In a world where noise is becoming increasingly intrusive, the emergence of innovative materials that can reduce its impact is of great interest. MIT researchers have unveiled a new sound-absorbing silk fabric that promises to revolutionize quiet spaces. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has made significant breakthroughs in the field of sound absorption. Researchers have developed a special silk fabric that can effectively absorb sound and create cozy, quiet environments. The fabric, thinner than a human hair, contains a unique vibrating fiber that is activated when voltage is applied to it. This feature allows the fabric to be used to suppress sound waves in two different ways. The first method uses fabric vibrations to generate sound waves that cover and cancel out unwanted noise, similar to noise-canceling headphones. This p ... >>

Body temperature affects life expectancy 13.02.2021

Researchers at the Scripps Research Institute have shown that reducing calories is associated with an increase in life expectancy and a reduced risk of developing cardiovascular disease, dementia and diabetes. These diseases are associated with age and significantly reduce the quality of life in old age.

During the experiment, two groups of mice received a reduced calorie diet, with one group kept at room temperature and the other placed in a warm place where the temperature was about 30 degrees Celsius. In such conditions, it is more difficult for animals to lower their body temperature. Two more groups of mice ate as usual and lived in the conditions of the first or second group.

During the experiment, scientists found that temperature has the same effect on the state of the body as a decrease in calories, and maybe more. When the animals ate less food, their body temperature dropped. But a decrease in body temperature, even without food restriction, had a positive effect, increasing the lifespan of rodents.

According to experts, the creation of drugs that mimic a decrease in body temperature can be a way to reduce the risk of age-related diseases and extend the period of a healthy life.
