One of the labor-intensive tasks is the search for analogues of galvanic cells produced by different companies in different regions of the world. Difficulties are exacerbated if the designation of the element is outdated or only the brand name is indicated.

The nomogram shown in fig. 1, establishes a clear mutual correspondence of all disk miniature silver-zinc electroplating cells for a wide range of applications. It consists of six columns. The first (far left) shows the old Japanese designations, which are still used by a number of firms in Southeast Asia. If the designation has an additional letter A on the right, this means that this element is manganese-zinc alkaline (with alkaline electrolyte), its capacity is two to three times less.

The second column gives the modern designations of the elements of this region. The third column is the rounded dimensions (diameter x axial height). The fourth column summarizes the designations recommended by the International Electrotechnical Congress (IEC).

The fifth column contains the numerical designations of elements produced in the USA and Europe for watches without backlight and alarms. In the sixth - for clocks with backlight and an alarm clock, they differ from the elements of the fifth column by a significantly lower internal resistance. Their counterparts are in the second column - the designation ends with an additional letter W after the slash.

The nomogram shows that the range of elements produced in both the Asian and European-American regions is wider than recommended by IEC.

The same nomogram, but compiled for widely used mercury-zinc elements, is shown in fig. 2.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

L7987 - asynchronous 61V 3A DC/DC regulator with current limiter 20.06.2015

STMicroelectronics introduces the L7987 and L7987L step-down DC/DC converters with an integrated switch. A feature of these microcircuits is the built-in adjustable output current limiter.

The output voltage range can be from 0,8 to 61 V, the output current is up to 3 A (L7987) and up to 2 A (L7987L), and a wide input voltage range from 4,5 V to 61 V allows using this microcircuit in industrial systems, automotive industry and security systems.

To increase the efficiency of work, a special control (VBIAS) has been introduced, which allows the converter to work efficiently at light loads. Microcircuits also have control inputs: ENABLE - disable the microcircuit and SoftStart (SS) - soft enable.

Additional control of the microcircuit's internal oscillator via the FSW and SYNCH inputs allows you to create systems with minimal noise and output voltage ripple.

Specifications:

Output current: up to 2 A for L7987L, up to 3 A for L7987;
Wide input voltage range: 4,5...61 V;
Built-in switch resistance Rdc(on): 300 mΩ (L7987L) and 250 mΩ (L7987);
Switching frequency adjustment Fsw: 250 kHz...1,5 MHz;
Low own consumption in SHD mode: 11 µA;
Low own consumption in no load: 1 mA;
Adjustable output voltage in the range: 0,8...61 V;
Possibility of external synchronization;
Adjustable SoftStart time;
Output current adjustment (limiting mode);
Efficiency control at low current consumption by the load;
Signaling output PGood;
