Refrigerator door open alarm, 10-15 s

Section House, gardening, hobby. For normal operation of the refrigerator, you should keep its doors open as little as possible. Therefore, in many modern refrigerators, an open door indication device is installed, which, if the refrigerator is open for more than 10 ... 15 seconds, starts beeping. In refrigerators made earlier, as a rule, there is no such device. The design of the electronic butler, which with an intermittent sound reminds you to close the refrigerator, is described in this article. The diagram of the sound indication device is shown in fig. 1 ... >>

Unpretentious metal detector with increased sensitivity, working on the principle of beats

Section Metal detectors. The metal detector (Fig. 2.28, a) works on the principle of beats, which are formed due to the difference between the oscillations of the reference and search oscillators (on the 5-10th harmonic, the closest in frequency is selected). This allows you to bring the sensitivity of the device to a high level, which makes it possible to detect: a five-kopeck coin in the ground at a depth of 10 cm, a steel manhole cover or pipe - at a depth of 65 cm ... >>

Toroidal Welding Transformer

Section Welding equipment. The weight and size characteristics of toroidal transformers are much better than those of W- and U-shaped ones. With the same characteristics, the toroid is 1,3...1,5 times smaller. This is very handy when the welding machine now and then has to be dragged from place to place. In the proposed design, the toroidal transformer is made from a used industrial welding transformer. To do this, it is disassembled, and a donut is assembled from plates measuring 90x450 mm. The required core area depends on the number of plates ... >>

The speech of sperm whales is similar to that of humans 18.05.2024

In the world of the ocean, where the mysterious and unknown coexists with the studied, sperm whales, with their huge brains, are of particular interest to science. Researchers, working with a huge array of audio recordings collected during the Dominica Sperm Whale Project (DSWP) - more than 8000 recordings, seek to unravel the secrets of their communication and understand the structure and complexity of the language of these mysterious creatures. By studying in detail the recordings of 60 sperm whales in the eastern Caribbean, scientists have revealed surprising features of their communication, revealing the complexity of their language. "Our observations indicate that these whales have a highly developed combinatorial communication system, including rubato and ornaments, which indicates their ability to quickly adapt and vary during communication. Despite significant differences in evolution, sperm whales have elements in their communication that are characteristic of human communication," says Shane Gero, a biologist at Carleton University and director of the CETI project. Electron spin for quantum information transfer 18.05.2024

The transfer of quantum information remains one of the key tasks of modern science. Recent advances in the use of electron spin to expand the capabilities of information transfer in quantum systems have become very important. Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory are pushing the frontiers of quantum information science by experimenting with the possibilities of electron spin. Electron spin, a natural quantum bit, is a potentially powerful means for storing and transmitting information in quantum systems. Magnon wave packets, collective excitations of electron spin, have revealed their potential to transmit quantum information over significant distances. The work of Berkeley Lab researchers has revolutionized the way such excitations propagate in antiferromagnets, opening up new prospects for quantum technologies. Using pairs of laser pulses, scientists disrupted antiferromagnetic order in one place and simultaneously studied it in another, creating ... >>

Sound-absorbing silk 17.05.2024

In a world where noise is becoming increasingly intrusive, the emergence of innovative materials that can reduce its impact is of great interest. MIT researchers have unveiled a new sound-absorbing silk fabric that promises to revolutionize quiet spaces. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has made significant breakthroughs in the field of sound absorption. Researchers have developed a special silk fabric that can effectively absorb sound and create cozy, quiet environments. The fabric, thinner than a human hair, contains a unique vibrating fiber that is activated when voltage is applied to it. This feature allows the fabric to be used to suppress sound waves in two different ways. The first method uses fabric vibrations to generate sound waves that cover and cancel out unwanted noise, similar to noise-canceling headphones. This p ... >>

New unique type of magnet 15.02.2019

Chemical engineering specialists from New York University, USA, demonstrated their new, unusual design of a unique type of magnet, discovered not so long ago during a parallel study of the properties of certain types of uranium and antimony. Specialists have identified a new type of magnet as a "sweatshirt magnet", naming it so because this type of magnet has the unique ability to change its magnetic properties, switching from a magnetized state to a demagnetized state. It is worth noting that the discovery of this new type of magnet is of paramount importance for improving the quality and reliability of modern hard drives.

In principle, the same applies to any other recording equipment. The very discovery of a new magnet was associated with the study of some configurations of antimony and uranium - then scientists were able to identify the prototype Usb2 magnet, in which electrons were formed not in the standard way, as is usually the case in magnets, but through a kind of layering and transposition. This allows the new Usb2 magnet to simultaneously demonstrate the properties of a charged and discharged magnet, depending on what the user specifically needs.

Connecting with each other, the electrons in the presented magnet form something like a disparate magnetic field, in which switching is controlled using standard flip-flops - in this respect, control is carried out in traditional and easy ways.

This type of magnet-sweatshirt will certainly be an excellent tool for a significant technical improvement in current technologies and methods for creating hard drives and other storage equipment - in particular, making this equipment more reliable, resistant to various types of deformation and more durable, which is very, very important.
