In modern amateur radio designs with universal power supply (mains and battery), the supply voltage usually does not exceed 12 V. Meanwhile, for some electronic devices used in such devices (for example, vacuum fluorescent indicators), the operating voltage is somewhat higher - up to 30 V. For the efficient use of many types of varicaps, it is also desirable to apply control voltages up to 20 ... 30 V to them. Such voltages can be obtained in designs with low-voltage power supply using a voltage converter.

Voltage converter, 12-30 volts

A diagram of one of the options for such a converter is shown in the figure. To receive high-voltage pulses, it uses a storage choke. A pulse generator with a repetition frequency of about 1 kHz is assembled on the DA40 timer (it is determined by the resistance of resistors R1, R2 and the capacitance of capacitor C1). These pulses are fed to the transistor VT1, operating in the switching mode. When it is open, energy is stored in the inductor L1 due to the current flowing through VT1. When the transistor closes, a voltage pulse appears on coil L1, the amplitude of which is several times higher than the supply voltage (in the author's design it was about 80 V). These voltage pulses are rectified by the VD1 diode, and the rectified voltage is filtered and then stabilized by the Zener diode VD2.

Transistor VT1 is desirable to choose from among those intended for use in switching circuits. In particular, it must have a high allowable collector-emitter voltage (not lower than 100 V). Diode VD1 should also have a high reverse allowable voltage. Zener diode VD2 - low power for the required output voltage (in the author's design - 30 V). The DA1 timer has an analogue of domestic production - KR1006VI1. There is no detailed information about the inductor in the article. It is only noted that it is made on an open armored magnetic core made of a material with a high initial magnetic permeability with a wire with a diameter of 0,1 mm.

When establishing a design, it may be necessary to select a resistor R3 - according to the highest rectified voltage (on capacitor C4).

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Free Internet from Facebook 06.08.2014

The Facebook social network, owned by one of the richest and youngest billionaires Mark Zuckerberg (ranks 16th in the Forbes ranking with a capital of $ 32,5 billion), has provided residents of the African state of Zambia with the opportunity to visit Facebook and 11 other sites from their smartphones without charging for mobile traffic. This opportunity was provided in cooperation with the Airtel operator and is available only to its subscribers, the company said.

In addition to the mobile version of the Facebook website (m.facebook.com), including the messenger (m.facebook.com/messages), subscribers are provided with free access to the local version of the Airtel website, AccuWeather, eZeLibrary, Facts for Life, Google, Go Zambia Jobs, Kokoliko, MAMA, Wikipedia, WRAPP and Zambia uReport.

The eZeLibrary website is designed to introduce you to the laws of Zambia and is currently under development. Facts for Life focuses on children's health, Go Zambia Jobs and Kokoliko on local company jobs, MAMA (Mobile Alliance for Maternal Action) on motherhood and family planning, WRAPP (Women's Rights App) on women's rights, and Zambia uReport on fighting the spread of HIV - infections.

Subscribers can access these sites in three ways: through the Internet.org application, having previously downloaded and installed it on an Android smartphone, through the Internet.org website, or through the Facebook application for Android.

"Using the Internet.org app, people will be able to access a range of health, employment and community-friendly resources without charging for mobile internet. We hope this will increase the number of internet users and help them find useful information that they previously was not available," they commented on Facebook.

Free access to 12 sites is the first step in the Internet.org initiative sponsored by Facebook. The social network has enlisted the support of Nokia, Samsung, Ericsson, MediaTek, Qualcomm and Opera Software. Together, the partners hope to make the Internet accessible to more people in developing countries. As part of the initiative, Facebook is also developing communications-enabled drones to "deliver" the internet to far-flung corners of the planet.
