Calculation of a vertical quarter-wave antenna

HF Antenna Section. One of the main ways to reduce interference to television reception from amateur transmitters is the use of transmitting antennas with vertical polarization. The most common among shortwaves is a quarter-wave vertical antenna (Ground plane). This antenna consists of a vertical rod, the length of which is usually somewhat less than a quarter of the operating wavelength emitted by the transmitter, and a counterweight. It is made of several horizontal quarter-wave beams connected to the sheath of a coaxial cable, through which high-frequency energy is supplied from the transmitter. The radiation resistance of such a quarter-wave antenna is 28-32 ohms (depending on the outer diameter of the metal tubes from which it is built) ... >>

Voltage converter for powering the varicap, 12/0-39 volts 12 milliamps

Section Voltage converters, rectifiers, inverters. The use of varicaps in low-voltage transistor equipment is often limited due to the need to use sources of increased stabilized voltage (about 40 V) to power them. A simple voltage stabilizer for a varicap (see figure) provides an output regulated stabilized voltage of 0..39 V. The device consumes a current of about 60 mA, the maximum load current is 12 mA. On the logic elements D1.1-D1.3 of the D1 chip, a rectangular pulse generator with a repetition rate of about 90 kHz is assembled. A buffer cascade is made on element D1.4. Transistor VI operates in the key mode on the inductive load L1. At the moment the key is closed, self-inductance EMF pulses appear on the collector of the transistor, which are rectified by the V2 diode and smoothed out by the capacitor C2 ... >>

Monitor Audio Amplifier

Section Transistor power amplifiers. Not all computer sound cards are designed to accept low-impedance headphones, and those that do are usually not capable of sufficient output power for some low-impedance (less than 16 ohm) as well as relatively high-impedance stereo phones. In addition, when they are directly connected to the output of a sound card, there is a risk of damage to it. All this forces cautious PC users to connect their headphones to the appropriate output of an audio power amplifier or preamplifier. In pre-amplifiers, made as an independent device, there is usually an amplifier for headphones, assembled, for example, on the popular K157UD1 op-amp. In UMZCH, signals to the phone jack usually come from the outputs of amplifiers through current-limiting resistors ... >>

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Combat lasers for bombers 07.06.2017

The US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) will develop a combat laser for the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress multifunctional heavy strategic bomber.

It is no secret that large and clumsy bombers are easy prey for enemy missiles. Such, for example, is the main long-range bomber aircraft of the US Air Force - the legendary B-52, or "Flying Fortress". On the one hand, it can carry on board up to 31,5 tons of various weapons, or 51 pieces of ammunition, including nuclear weapons. The bomber has one of the most powerful electronic warfare systems among US combat aircraft.

It includes equipment for creating misleading and noise interference, heat traps and dipole reflectors, and B-52 bombers of some modifications are equipped with electronic suppression systems designed to suppress enemy radar stations, jammers, radar exposure warning equipment, and a pulse-Doppler protection station. tail and jammers.

On the other hand, due to its large dimensions and maximum takeoff weight of almost 230 tons, the strategic bomber has poor maneuverability and is not able to evade enemy missiles. Therefore, the Americans decided to equip it with laser weapons, which will be designed primarily to protect the B-52 from missiles. Moreover, the combat laser should not blind the ammunition guidance systems, knocking them off the target, but physically destroy them.

AFRL believes that a laser system aboard a multifunctional heavy strategic bomber will more effectively protect it from enemy threats. The project was named SHIELD ("Shield") and should be implemented within five years. During this time, researchers should develop overhead containers with combat lasers that can be used not only on B-52s, but also on US Air Force C-130J Super Hercules military transport aircraft.
