How to choose a microwave

Section Consumer Electronics. In fact, the method of cooking comes down to one thing - to heat a frying pan or pan and, accordingly, its contents. You have to wait quite a long time, while also a huge amount of heat is lost. The solution was the use of a microwave oven, otherwise - a microwave oven. History of the microwave oven. The microwave oven was invented by American engineer P. B. Spencer. When studying the operation of a microwave emitter, he found that at a certain radiation frequency, intense heat release is observed. In 1945, Spencer received a patent for the use of microwaves in food preparation, and in 1949, the first microwave ovens were produced in the United States for the rapid defrosting of strategic food stocks using his patent. ... >>

Brief glossary of technical terms

Section Beginner radio amateur. AGC - Automatic Gain Control - a form of negative feedback that reduces the gain of the amplifier when the input signal is strong and increases when the input is weak. The AGC usually consists of an amplitude detector and a low pass filter. Thus, at its output there is an average output voltage, which usually drives a transistor that shunts the input circuit. Harmonics are the frequency components of complex periodic oscillations, an integer number of times greater than the fundamental frequency of these oscillations. The harmonic number is given by the ratio of its frequency to the frequency of the main signal. That is, the second harmonic has a frequency twice the fundamental, the third - three times, etc. As the harmonic number increases, its amplitude decreases. Subharmonics - frequency components, an integer number of times smaller than the fundamental frequency, appear in the spectrum much less frequently ... >>

Electrical materials. wires

Electrical section. A wire is a metal conductor of electric current, consisting of one or more conductive cores. A conductor consists of one (single-wire) or several wires (multi-wire) twisted together. Wires with stranded conductors are more flexible than wires with solid conductors. Wire cores used in electrical installations are made of aluminum and copper. For reasons of economy, mainly wires with aluminum conductors are used. Standard sections of conductive copper wires: 0,5, 1, 1,5, 2,5, 4, 6, 10, 16, 25, 35, 50, 70, 95, 120, 150, 185, 240, 300, 400 , 500, 800 mm2. Aluminum conductors of wires are made according to the same cross-sectional scale, starting from 2,5 mm. Copper conductors with a cross section of up to 10 mm and aluminum conductors up to 25 mm are single-wire and stranded, conductors of large cross-sections are only stranded ... >>

The speech of sperm whales is similar to that of humans 18.05.2024

In the world of the ocean, where the mysterious and unknown coexists with the studied, sperm whales, with their huge brains, are of particular interest to science. Researchers, working with a huge array of audio recordings collected during the Dominica Sperm Whale Project (DSWP) - more than 8000 recordings, seek to unravel the secrets of their communication and understand the structure and complexity of the language of these mysterious creatures. By studying in detail the recordings of 60 sperm whales in the eastern Caribbean, scientists have revealed surprising features of their communication, revealing the complexity of their language. "Our observations indicate that these whales have a highly developed combinatorial communication system, including rubato and ornaments, which indicates their ability to quickly adapt and vary during communication. Despite significant differences in evolution, sperm whales have elements in their communication that are characteristic of human communication," says Shane Gero, a biologist at Carleton University and director of the CETI project. Electron spin for quantum information transfer 18.05.2024

The transfer of quantum information remains one of the key tasks of modern science. Recent advances in the use of electron spin to expand the capabilities of information transfer in quantum systems have become very important. Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory are pushing the frontiers of quantum information science by experimenting with the possibilities of electron spin. Electron spin, a natural quantum bit, is a potentially powerful means for storing and transmitting information in quantum systems. Magnon wave packets, collective excitations of electron spin, have revealed their potential to transmit quantum information over significant distances. The work of Berkeley Lab researchers has revolutionized the way such excitations propagate in antiferromagnets, opening up new prospects for quantum technologies. Using pairs of laser pulses, scientists disrupted antiferromagnetic order in one place and simultaneously studied it in another, creating ... >>

Sound-absorbing silk 17.05.2024

In a world where noise is becoming increasingly intrusive, the emergence of innovative materials that can reduce its impact is of great interest. MIT researchers have unveiled a new sound-absorbing silk fabric that promises to revolutionize quiet spaces. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has made significant breakthroughs in the field of sound absorption. Researchers have developed a special silk fabric that can effectively absorb sound and create cozy, quiet environments. The fabric, thinner than a human hair, contains a unique vibrating fiber that is activated when voltage is applied to it. This feature allows the fabric to be used to suppress sound waves in two different ways. The first method uses fabric vibrations to generate sound waves that cover and cancel out unwanted noise, similar to noise-canceling headphones. This p ... >>

The influence of a child's nutrition on his future character 17.01.2023

Scientists from the Institute of Military Epidemiology in Oslo have found that the nutrition of a mother during pregnancy and a child under the age of seven years can be associated with the character and mental health of the child.

A total of 40 pairs of mothers and children were included in the study. Mothers filled out questionnaires when the child was six months old, 566 months old, three years old, seven years old and eight years old.

The analysis found that a healthy maternal diet was associated with higher scores on conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and imagination, and lower scores on neuroticism in children.

Healthy eating for mothers during pregnancy and for children between the ages of six months and seven years was associated with lower depression scores in children at age eight, but the researchers did not find a significant association between diet and anxiety. However, diet at age seven had a stronger effect on the risk of developing depression than diet during infancy.

The authors noted that all participating mothers were non-smokers and regularly took multivitamins and folic acid supplements, so they do not represent the general population. To date, no studies have reported an association between early childhood nutrition and five major personality traits.
