Solar collectors. storage tank

Section Alternative energy sources. Solar heat is accumulated in the tank due to the fact that hot water is stored in it. Tanks vary in size. All of them are connected to the inlet pipe for cold water and the outlet pipe for hot water, as well as to the circulation pipes. The most efficient is a vertical tank with a temperature gradient along the height, while the cold water at the inlet does not mix with the hot water at the top of the tank. In the presence of a horizontal tank, the system performance is reduced by 10-20%. The heat from the solar collector is transferred to the water in the tank using a heat exchanger. As a heat exchanger, a coil is usually used at the bottom of the tank or a shell around the tank with the heat transfer fluid. In systems with natural circulation and low liquid flows, a sheath is usually used ... >>

Protection of electric lighting devices

Section Lighting. When the lamp is connected softly, the current through the filament increases smoothly, without reaching an extreme value, so the longevity of the lamp increases immeasurably. However, the implementation of these devices is associated with a number of difficulties. First, the use of high-capacity oxide capacitors is required, which, for safety reasons, must be rated for a voltage of at least 400 V. This leads to a significant increase in the dimensions of the device. Secondly, the fact that the switch is built into the device itself makes it necessary to lay additional lead wires. ... >>

Cable wiring installation

Electrical section. Cable wiring is a type of open wiring and is used to power power and lighting electrical receivers in industrial premises, territories, driveways, warehouses, etc. The carrier element of these wiring is a steel cable with a diameter of 3-6,5 mm or galvanized wire with a diameter of 5-8 mm. With the help of anchor and tensioning devices, the cable (wire) is pulled along the route. If the length of the wiring is more than 6 m, then support strings made of galvanized wire with a diameter of 1,52 mm are installed. The sag should be no more than 100-150 mm. The wires are connected in junction boxes, and the branches are made in junction boxes suspended on a carrier cable. Wire cores are connected by welding, crimping or squeezing ... >>

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Smart bracelet shock therapy 03.10.2014

A team of enthusiastic developers from Boston decided that the use of mild shock therapy could have a positive effect on giving up addictions. And the best thing for this is electronics worn on the wrist in the form of a stylish bracelet. It was decided to start raising funds for the serial production of a device called Pavlok on the Indiegogo crowdfunding site. The ultimate goal for the implementation of the idea was $50, but over $62,5 were transferred in just three days. At the same time, the campaign to finance the project, which started on September 30, will last until October 30 inclusive.

The Pavlok "smart" bracelet itself is a wearable gadget that is not only ready to wake you up in the morning or remind you of the inadmissibility of the action performed by a characteristic sound signal, but will also allow your body to feel a short discharge from 17 to 340 Volts. The developers immediately warn that such electric shocks will not cause any harm to health, but with the value set to "maximum", they will turn out to be very unpleasant and tangible. Although the most appropriate word here would be "motivated." At least, this is exactly what the creator of the "smart" bracelet relied on in an attempt to find an effective method of educating fortitude in conjunction with the original form of punishment for minor misconduct.

Pavlok can be a great way for smokers to kick their bad habit once and for all. To do this, you will need to program the gadget to recognize a certain movement of the hand in space - like a characteristic gesture when you bring a cigarette to your mouth, and force you to give up this kind of activity with the help of unpleasant "reminiscent impulses" coming from the bracelet. Such a solution is carried out due to the various sensors built into Pavlok, including the accelerometer, and also not without the help of a mobile application. In addition, the model is equipped with Bluetooth and GPS modules, a small vibration motor and a tiny LED indicator.

The bracelet was created by Stanford University graduate Maneesh Sethi, who plans to make the Pavlok platform open, which should encourage (this time without unpleasant electric shocks) third-party programmers to develop new applications. As a possible mode of operation of wearable electronics, a deeper interaction with a smartphone is considered. This will allow you to, say, shock you every time you decide to dial a number or send a text message to your "ex" or boss, forcing you to think twice before doing so.

The current functionality of Pavlok will allow you to protect you from going to haunts or fast food restaurants. To do this, you will have to use GPS navigation, which can track your current location and, when you approach the cafe, remind you in an original way about the promise to stick to a healthy diet. Or just pinch you with a notification on your smartphone to visit the gym when you are in the area of its location.

Pavlok is synchronized via Bluetooth 4.0 LE with your mobile device, after which you can select the mode of operation you are interested in and enter the necessary settings in a special application. If you are against unpleasant sensations, then harmless discharges can be replaced, as noted above, with a sound signal from the speaker built into the bracelet. The list of painless wearable gadget warnings includes a vibration alert, as well as a command for an automatically generated entry (it can also be a message of a shameful nature for better motivation) on your Facebook page.

The first Pavlok prototypes were already shown this year, and their cost was $250 at that time. Now, when the startup has relocated to the Indiegogo resource, the price for the device for project participants will be $149. Sending the bracelet to customers who pre-ordered the gadget is scheduled for May 2015.
