BOOKS AND ARTICLES Rules of conduct on the set In order for the shooting to go smoothly, each of their participants must know and follow the rules that help not to spoil the material being shot and optimize the time of work. In addition to the well-known rules of decency (arriving on time, not talking during recording, following the director's requests, etc.), there are a number of points that are not entirely obvious (as experience shows) for beginners that need to be clarified for successful filming. For convenience, we will first give the rules in the form of short abstracts (they can be given to read to each project participant) and then explain why you need to follow each rule. Rules for actors
Many amateur actors have a habit of looking happily at the director or at the camera immediately after they manage to dissuade all the memorized text. As a result, when editing video clips, there is no "margin" at the end, which is very often necessary for normal "gluing" of the scene. In addition, an actor's mistake in a line is no reason for him and the rest of the film crew to start the take again. Perhaps everything will be so good later on that this particular fragment will be included in the film, and the erroneous remark will be replaced, for example, by another plan. Let your actors improvise. Very often, a sudden thought that comes to an actor who has entered his image allows him to perform his role as naturally as possible. This is especially important in projects with actors without experience. One of the biggest problems that can happen when shooting a take is if someone in the frame looks directly into the camera lens (it doesn't matter if it's a person in the foreground or in the background). This very noticeable when viewed and causes great discomfort, since the viewer in the cinema, as a rule, is an invisible third-party observer. Such unplanned moments in the film should not be. Most budding filmmakers don't realize the complexity and importance of scoring a film, resulting in actors not putting in the effort when delivering their lines, hoping to do "the right thing" with scoring. Similar approach unacceptable, because it causes a huge number of difficulties at the stage of sound mixing and greatly spoils the visual impression of the film. All actors must play clean from the start. And one of the most difficult and at the same time important rules: actors need to remember what actions (gestures) they do at what point in time in order to repeat them the same way in each take. This is very important so that during editing there is no situation when it is impossible to “glue” two pieces for the reason that in one of them the actor raised his hand up, and in the other he holds them behind his back. Rules for the operator
The moment you press the record button, even if the camera is on a tripod, the image shakes slightly when touched. In addition, in most cameras, and especially in amateur ones, there is a slight delay between pressing the record button and actually starting it. If you don't pause between clicking and "launching" the scene, the beginning of the scene may be messed up. If the role of director and operator is played by one person, you need to independently command yourself and the actors “Ready” (while pressing the record button) and “Start” (a couple of seconds after you remove your hand from the camera) out loud. With the rules about malfunctions and stopping filming, everything should be clear. Manual installation white balance - this is what most film lovers forget about, and it is completely in vain. Each time you move the camera (and therefore, when the scene lighting changes), you must put a white sheet of paper in front of the lens and press the white balance button. This will ensure that during the shooting of one take, the colors will not "jump" depending on what is happening in the frame. Rules for the director
The first rule is clear. Attentiveness is very important for the director, since the mistakes made by the actors often go unnoticed either by themselves or by the cameraman. In addition, it is the director who must ensure that all other participants in the filming comply with all the rules (including looking at the camera and adjusting the white balance by the cameraman). Rules for everyone
It is important to note that, as a rule, there is no one to monitor compliance with these rules on the set. Therefore, people not involved in shooting should independently control the situation on the site and move depending on which direction the camera is directed. If people who are not involved in filming do not follow these rules, it is logical to send them away from the set, where in a calm atmosphere they can talk with each other on topics of such interest to them. Compliance with all these rules will help not only finish the shooting day on time, without stretching the process for additional hours, but also avoid many shortcomings that will become noticeable at the editing stage.
