5.1.1. This chapter of the Rules applies to the design of electrical machine rooms and the installation of electrical equipment in them. If the power of the largest machine or converter installed in them is less than 500 kW, compliance with the requirements of 5.1.8 - 5.1.10, 5.1.12, 5.1.13, 5.1.20, 5.1.33 and 5.1.34 is optional.

5.1.2. Electrical machine rooms (EMP) are spaces in which electric generators, rotating or static converters, electric motors, transformers, switchgear, switchboards and control panels, as well as related auxiliary equipment can be installed together and the maintenance of which is carried out by personnel meeting the requirements of Chapter . 1.1.

5.1.3. The installation of electrical equipment covered by this chapter must comply with the requirements of the relevant other chapters of the Code to the extent not modified by this chapter.

Installation of electrical equipment above 1 kV to the extent not specified in this chapter must comply with the requirements of Chapter. 4.2, required for intra-shop substations.

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

Healthy sleep eliminates sugar cravings 17.01.2018

Researchers from King's College London claim that if a person sleeps for a long time, he eats less sweets. Several dozen people participated in the experiment; some of them were instructed on how they could prolong their sleep (the instructions were pretty simple: don't drink coffee at night, don't go to bed with a full stomach, but don't go to bed hungry, etc.). Then they were sent home with special devices with which it was possible to monitor how much a person sleeps and how he sleeps.

It is known that an adult should sleep for about 7-9 hours, but not everyone manages to withstand this norm. So the participants in the experiment usually slept less. However, those who were asked to follow the "sleep" instruction during the week did start to sleep more - half of them increased their sleep time by an average of 52-90 minutes, and three managed to achieve the required 7-9 hours per day.

But the most important thing here is how their diet has changed. It turned out that those who began to sleep more began to eat less sweets: they put less sugar in tea and coffee, they were not so drawn to sweet pastries, etc. On average, long sleep reduced sugar intake by 10 grams per day. True, not very many people participated in the study, and the results obtained will still have to be checked. However, if everything is so, and sleep really helps to forget about sweets, then recommendations for those who want to lose weight can begin with advice to sleep longer.
