10kW Switching Power Supply for Concert Amplifier

Section Power supplies. The power consumed by amplifying installations in the sound systems of discos and small venues reaches 2...10 kW. At the same time, the output stages of the amplifiers require supply voltages from ±80 to ±160 V (and higher). This article proposes a bipolar switching power supply (SMPS) (Fig. 1), designed to power the final stages of a concert UMZCH. Among the power supply devices described on the pages of the magazine at the moment, this SMPS is the most powerful ... >>

NiMH battery charger with capacity measurement function

Section Chargers, batteries, galvanic cells. The device is designed to charge NiMH batteries and control their capacity. Switching between charge / discharge modes is carried out by the SA1 button. The operating mode is displayed using LEDs and decimal points of the first two digits of the seven-segment display. Immediately after turning on the power, the device enters the charge mode. The indicator shows the charging time. After the programmed time has elapsed, charging stops. The lit point of the fourth category testifies to the end of the charge (and the same discharge). The charge current is defined as C / 10 where C is the battery capacity, set by the trimmer R14 ... >>

Twisted pair tester

Section Electronics and computer. With this tester, you can check for a break in a 10/100 megabit network cable. The resistor is selected for the normal glow of the LEDs, approximately 1 kOhm ... >>

The speech of sperm whales is similar to that of humans 18.05.2024

In the world of the ocean, where the mysterious and unknown coexists with the studied, sperm whales, with their huge brains, are of particular interest to science. Researchers, working with a huge array of audio recordings collected during the Dominica Sperm Whale Project (DSWP) - more than 8000 recordings, seek to unravel the secrets of their communication and understand the structure and complexity of the language of these mysterious creatures. By studying in detail the recordings of 60 sperm whales in the eastern Caribbean, scientists have revealed surprising features of their communication, revealing the complexity of their language. "Our observations indicate that these whales have a highly developed combinatorial communication system, including rubato and ornaments, which indicates their ability to quickly adapt and vary during communication. Despite significant differences in evolution, sperm whales have elements in their communication that are characteristic of human communication," says Shane Gero, a biologist at Carleton University and director of the CETI project. Electron spin for quantum information transfer 18.05.2024

The transfer of quantum information remains one of the key tasks of modern science. Recent advances in the use of electron spin to expand the capabilities of information transfer in quantum systems have become very important. Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory are pushing the frontiers of quantum information science by experimenting with the possibilities of electron spin. Electron spin, a natural quantum bit, is a potentially powerful means for storing and transmitting information in quantum systems. Magnon wave packets, collective excitations of electron spin, have revealed their potential to transmit quantum information over significant distances. The work of Berkeley Lab researchers has revolutionized the way such excitations propagate in antiferromagnets, opening up new prospects for quantum technologies. Using pairs of laser pulses, scientists disrupted antiferromagnetic order in one place and simultaneously studied it in another, creating ... >>

Sound-absorbing silk 17.05.2024

In a world where noise is becoming increasingly intrusive, the emergence of innovative materials that can reduce its impact is of great interest. MIT researchers have unveiled a new sound-absorbing silk fabric that promises to revolutionize quiet spaces. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has made significant breakthroughs in the field of sound absorption. Researchers have developed a special silk fabric that can effectively absorb sound and create cozy, quiet environments. The fabric, thinner than a human hair, contains a unique vibrating fiber that is activated when voltage is applied to it. This feature allows the fabric to be used to suppress sound waves in two different ways. The first method uses fabric vibrations to generate sound waves that cover and cancel out unwanted noise, similar to noise-canceling headphones. This p ... >>

Alternative energy has fallen sharply 18.06.2012

According to a study by the Abu Dhabi International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), renewable energy is getting cheaper every year. This conclusion contradicts the widespread belief that clean energy is too expensive to implement at the current stage.

According to the study, the cost of generating energy from solar panels has fallen by as much as 60% in just the past few years. It also reduces the cost of generating electricity from other renewable energy sources, including wind turbines, hydroelectric power, solar thermal concentrators and biomass fuels.

“One of the myths promoted by industry lobbyists is the exorbitant price of renewable energy,” says IRENA head Adnan Amin. “At the same time, the numbers show the opposite. electricity generation can compete with many traditional fossil fuel technologies."

It should be noted that investments in alternative energy are also growing very rapidly: in 2011 they amounted to about 260 billion dollars. In addition to the obvious benefits from energy production, this will create at least four million new jobs in the manufacturing sector of rural regions of developing countries.

The prospects for alternative energy have recently been very clearly demonstrated by Germany. In this country, solar panels produced a record 25 GWh of electricity on May 26 and 2012, 22. This is equivalent to the operation of 20 nuclear power plants.
