Nuvem transatlantic fiber optic internet cable 29.09.2023

Google has announced the launch of an innovative transatlantic fiber optic cable called Nuvem. This project aims to establish high-quality Internet connections between the United States, Portugal and Bermuda. In the United States, the cable will be laid on the coast of South Carolina. The project also aims to transform the region into an emerging technology hub. Recently, laying of the Firmina cable has already begun here, which will connect this state with Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay. Nuvem is planned to be ready for operation by 2026. Combined with the Firmina and Equiano projects, this cable will create new digital routes connecting North and South America, Europe and Africa.

In May of this year, the European Union announced its intention to build an undersea Internet cable in the Black Sea. The cost of this project is estimated at 45 million euros, the length will be 1100 kilometers, and it will connect EU member states with the Caucasus region through international neutral waters.
