How to use Windows Live Movie Maker

Don't know which program to edit the video in? Do it with Windows Live Movie Maker - a simple, convenient and functional video editor. In this guide, you will find a small lesson on the main functions of this program.

Step 1: Add Pictures

To add a picture to the timeline, click on the "Add videos and photos" icon, or click on the icon on the timeline that says "Drag videos and photos here or click to browse for them" videos and photos here or click to open them). To add a second picture to the timeline - click on "Add videos and photos" again and select a new image. Step 2: Change the timing of the pictures

Move the time slider to the first frame and click on the green tab labeled "Video Tools". On the tab, in the field "Duration" (Duration) you can set an arbitrary duration for displaying the picture. For example, set the duration of the first picture to 3 seconds. In the same way, set the display time for the second picture.

Help. You can see how the video clip will look at any time by simply rewinding it to the beginning and pressing the "Play" button.

Step 3: Add a transition

In order not to glue two different pictures side by side, but to switch from displaying one image to displaying another one gradually, you should add a so-called transition. Move the time slider to the second picture and go to the "Animations" tab (Animation), expand the menu "Transitions" (Transitions) and select the desired transition. For example, you can choose a simple "Crossfade" transition. Now, when switching from displaying the first picture to the second one, one picture will slowly disappear, and the one that replaces it will also slowly appear.

Step 4: Adjust the transition time

In the same tab "Animations" at the top there is a menu "Duration" (Duration), in which you can set the duration of the transition (in seconds). Please note that the transition is displayed schematically on the timeline - in the form of a gray corner on the preview of the second picture.

Step 5: Add Text

Rewind the clip to the first frame and go to the "Home" tab. In the top menu, click on the "Caption" icon. You will see a text box appear on the timeline screen, in which you should write the desired text. In addition, the text box can be moved and stretched as you like. The appearance of the inscription is customizable - the text can be made bold and italic, change the font, color, etc. The display time of the inscription is configured in the "Start time" and "Text duration" menus. In the top menu of the "Format" tab, you can also see effect icons that can be applied to text to make it animated. On the timeline, the added text is displayed as a separate icon.

Help. Drag the slider located in the lower right corner of the screen towards the plus sign. This will zoom in on the frames of the movie. Click on the adjacent icon, and choose from the menu what size preview frames you want. Perhaps the most convenient mode for you will be when the "scale" slider is dragged all the way to the plus icon, and "Extra small icons" is selected as the frame preview size.

Help. As you drag the time slider (it looks like a large vertical bar) through the frames of the video, the "Video Tools" (Video Tools) and "Text tools" (Text Tools) tabs become active (or inactive) - thanks to this, you can edit the content of any frame, be it a text caption, transition, etc.

Step 6: Add Music

On the "Home" tab, click on the "Add music" icon and select the music file you want to add to the video.

Step 7: Save the video

Go to the "Home" tab and in the main (drop-down) menu located in the upper left corner of the program, select "Save movie" (Save video). the program will offer you a choice of several video saving formats - for the Internet, for a wide screen, for mobile devices, etc. Select the desired option and provide a name for the saved file. After saving the video, the program will open a dialog box asking you to play the saved video or open the folder where it is located.

Submission. You can publish a video on YouTube by clicking on the icon with the appropriate icon - either in the top menu of the program, or in the main (drop-down) menu, selecting "Publish movie" (Publish video). Through the "Publish movie" item, you can add other plugins to the program - for uploading videos to Facebook, pictures - to Picasa, etc.
