Virtual Dub. Image processing with filters
Directory / video art
Comments on the article
Video processing with filters can be done directly during capture, but most filters are very resource-demanding and therefore not suitable for real-time processing. Therefore, most often, filters have to process already captured video. It is this case that we will consider in detail.
VirtualDub is running and the AVI file to be processed is opened. Let's move on to filters.
In the window that opens, the list is initially empty, to add a filter to it, press the "Add ..." button.
Initially, the VirtualDub program already contains a number of filters, they are built in and appear as "Internal" in the list. But built-in filters are often not enough. So, for example, in order to remove the "comb" it is better to use an external filter. External filters are downloaded from the Internet additionally.
The filter itself (external) is a file with the .vdf extension. To connect such a filter to VirtualDub, you just need to place it in the "VirtualDubPlugins" directory.
So, having selected one of the filters, click "OK".
Thus, we choose the required number of filters, be sure to configure them. You can configure the filter by clicking the "Configure ..." button.
Be sure to keep in mind that in what order the filters are located in this list, in that order they will be superimposed on the image. If necessary, you can move the filters up or down using the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons, respectively.
Having selected and configured the necessary filters, click "OK" and return to our AVI file. Now we can see the result.
Frame sizes are often very large, which do not even fit on the monitor screen, as in the above example. In this case, you can swap the original and received frames. Those. when changing, on the left we will fully see the frame - the result, and the original frame, on the right - already something to fit.
Now, in order to finally apply all these filters to the original AVI file, it must be saved. But first make sure that "Full processing mode" is selected for the video stream.
Actually saving.

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive The computer was taught to distinguish male text from female
01.10.2003
Israeli computer scientists from the University of Bar-Ilan have created a program that, with a high probability, determines the gender of its creator from the English text.
566 different English-language essays were entered into a computer equipped with this program, from fiction to dry scientific works, each time reporting who wrote it - a man or a woman. In total, the computer read over 20 million words. As a result, the machine found 128 linguistic features characteristic of the authors of both sexes. This is the frequency of use of certain words and the features of the construction of phrases. Women use words like "for", "with" and "and" more often than men.
In addition, they prefer the present tense of verbs and use pronouns more often than men. Men are more likely to use numerals, the words "this", "such", "no" and the indefinite article. In general, in 80 percent of cases the program does not make mistakes, but in fiction the result is even better.
Of the 264 works of art offered to the machine, the gender of the author was determined incorrectly in only six cases, and in five of them the computer mistook a man for a woman and only in one of them was mistaken in the opposite direction. For 30 scientific articles written in a dry, formal language, the correctness of determining the gender of the author was 74 percent.
