The DVD format is one of the main players in the media production market. Therefore, authoring is required to create interactivity when playing DVD video.

Authoring is a complex process that includes pre-coding audio and video materials, mixing audio tracks, identifying and arranging entry points, assigning links and addresses. In this case, a complex structure of video material is formed with a branched continuation of the plot (scene), menus are added, and finally, the final mixing of video and audio streams is carried out.

The first step in the authoring process is to put together all the source material: MPEG-encoded video, audio tracks, graphics files, and subtitles. Corresponding variants of sound accompaniment are attached to the video stream. All files containing the data necessary to create a DVD program are brought together and mutual links are established between them. However, until the complete completion of the project, all these objects remain physically independent, not mixed into a common digital stream.

Information about the presence and number of episodes is also added, and entry points are defined with appropriate addressing and links. The order of displaying subtitles is specified: their binding to a specific frame, the color of the title, the time it was on the screen.

Once all the objects are collected, it is necessary to create a structure of interactivity - to establish the necessary links and transitions between different parts of the program. Also, this is where still images or animated fragments (Background) are designated as the background for the menu, after which button images and texts corresponding to menu items (Overlay) are superimposed on them.

During the authoring process, the director of the project should be able to check the performance of the future disk, evaluate the project in dynamics. Since the navigational functions in a DVD are determined by the interactivity structure, it is very important to check that all of its programming chains are functioning correctly.

As noted earlier, elementary streams are involved in authoring and are not fully merged. If any problems are identified at this stage, such as the lack of synchronization between the appearance of titles on the screen and the actual image, they can be fixed.

All the materials that make up a DVD (video, audio, subtitles) are mixed into a single video object (VOB) and given the final DVD-ready format. All program chains used in the structure of interactivity are placed in the information zone of a set of plots, a set of files is created in the DVD standard.

The last stage is the creation of a disk image: files recorded in DVD format are reformatted in accordance with the requirements of the UDF-Bridge file system.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
