Capturing video in VirtualDub

Comments on the article
VirtualDub is running, let's switch to video capture mode.
By default, the file to which the capture will be made is located on the C: drive and is called Capture.avi, if necessary, this can be changed.
Select the video source.
I choose "Video tuner", you can immediately adjust the brightness, contrast, saturation, ..., for this you need to select the "device parameters" tab. If these parameters are not available for you to adjust - the WDM driver is to blame, try installing another one (I prefer the driver from Eduardo Jose Tagle).
Select the format in which we will capture.
When capturing under Windows2000/XP using the WDM driver, the maximum resolution with which video can be captured by a program written for VideoForWindows (and VirtualDub is exactly that) is 352x288. True, there is a small exception, which I learned about quite recently: if you use the WDM driver from Eduardo Jose Tagle, then even VideoForWindows programs can capture high-resolution video. How this is possible - I do not know, but the fact remains. :)
And so we choose the resolution and color depth. The color depth, as already mentioned, is better to choose YUY2.
Select the audio format and the number of frames per second.
Most often, you should choose as follows, see below.
By default, audio is recorded without compression. Just in case, you can go and make sure that everything is so.
"PCM" should be selected, make sure everything is ok. I strongly do not recommend choosing any codec for sound, since in this case the sound will definitely diverge from the video stream.
Select a codec for the video stream.
It is necessary to set a very important setting, linking the video stream to the sound. Perhaps the option is already selected, just in case, make sure. To do this, go to the settings.
And we look, if not, put a mark against "Lock video stream to audio".
If desired, you can trim uneven edges. To do this, check the box next to "Enable" and go to "Set bounds ..." to set the size of the cropped margins.
By exposing the fields, you can immediately see the result - this is very convenient.
If the performance of the computer allows and there is a desire, you can apply filters when capturing.
Now everything is ready and you can go directly to video capture:
F6 button - start capturing.
Esc - abort capture.
During the capture, you can see all the necessary statistics.

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
Petgugu Global cat litter
15.04.2024
Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>
The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive Tests of the prototype Martian drilling rig
10.01.2019
Researchers and engineers from the University of Glasgow (Scotland) delivered a modified version of the prototype Martian drilling rig to Antarctica. The experiment in Antarctica is aimed at obtaining soil samples from a depth of 1,6 km, which will allow us to better study the climatic changes that have occurred on Earth over several million years.
According to the report, the work is carried out jointly with the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) team, which is based at the Skytrain Ice Rise station, and on January 10, using its drilling rig, drilled a hole to a depth of 651 meters. Next, they are going to put into action the high-tech Scots P-RAID installation, designed to work in conditions of reduced gravity of Mars, complicating the task of creating enough force to break through hard surface soil. Especially to solve this problem, engineers from Glasgow created a machine that works on a slightly different principle.
Instead of just rotating the drill, the rig pierces and drills the soil at the same time, while its actions are controlled by an artificial intelligence control system. According to the developers, this allowed the designers to reduce the weight of the installation, while increasing the torque, and also to make the system autonomous, which will be useful when working on Mars.
However, the compact size and the ability to work autonomously interested the BAS team, which had previously been looking for ways to drill into the Antarctic rock at the bottom of an ice hole. While scientists have their own portable rig to work with relatively soft ice, however, the need to go lower, drilling through harder layers of rock created real logistical difficulties for a team working in a very remote area from civilization.
At the same time, the developers of the drilling apparatus said that in order to work in Martian conditions, the drill will also use ultrasound, which is not required in terrestrial drilling conditions. On Earth, the percussion mechanism of the installation will move along a circular inclined plane and break through the ground with each rotation of the drill.
While the BAS team works on the chemical analysis of ice samples taken from various depths during the first drilling, the Glasgow team will continue to dig deeper into the Antarctic ice. The researchers plan to measure the ratio of beryllium-10 radioactive isotopes at various depths to determine when and how the structure of ice and soil in the area changed under the influence of a reaction between cosmic radiation particles, nitrogen and oxygen atoms.
By finding out the ratio of isotopes in the rock, scientists will be able to understand when the soil was last not covered with ice and was directly exposed to the atmosphere.
