Field-effect transistors have long been used in power amplifiers. Their main advantage is the low level of harmonic and intermodulation distortion, which makes it possible to get by with a shallow overall feedback. However, they are rarely used in preliminary cascades. But in vain! Their use allows you to create simple circuits without general feedback and a warm "tube" sound. The coefficient of harmonics with shallow local environmental protection usually does not exceed 0,1 ... 0,3%, there are no higher order harmonics.

Most of the proposed schemes were developed "at the request of the workers".

During development, two conditions were set:

  • get by with only a 12-volt unipolar power supply, so as not to mess with the manufacture of converters and not to climb inside the amplifier for increased voltage;
  • the scheme should be extremely simple and not require special qualifications to repeat

The first circuit is intended mainly for "home" use, when the subwoofer is located next to the front speakers. It can also be used in a car if the subwoofer will reproduce frequencies below 70 Hz. Otherwise, you will need to add a phase shifter to the circuit. The Bessel filters in the main channels are chosen because of the smoothest phase response.

The variant with a phase shifter differs from the main one by increasing the cutoff frequency in relation to common car acoustics and expanding the range of tuning the cutoff frequency of the subwoofer channel. Bessel filters in the main channels have given way to Butterworth filters. (the steepness of the characteristic in the inflection zone of the frequency response is higher for them).

If desired, the cutoff frequency, order and type of filters can be changed. The formulas necessary for the calculation are in the Handbook. Let this be "homework". By the way, the transfer coefficient of the source follower (0,7 ... 0,85) depends on the steepness of the transistor characteristic. Therefore, the calculated values of the frequency-setting elements must be corrected.

In addition, simple filters on source followers have other disadvantages. The main one is a low transmission coefficient. When using common low-power field-effect transistors with a slope of 3-7 mA/V, the signal at the output of the main channels will be attenuated by 2...3 dB. In combination with a low output overload capacity, only one thing follows from this - the sensitivity of the amplifier should be on the order of 300 ... 500 mV.

To overcome this disadvantage, you can use the combined stages of the structure "Common source - common collector". Note that the output signal is inverted.

All proposed circuits were designed for use with a broadband amplifier and passive crossovers. When switching to multiband amplification, a bandpass filter must be introduced into the active crossover. The easiest way to do it is on the basis of the already considered combined cascade.

If we combine the described miracles of circuitry, we get this filter:

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Bicycle anti-theft system 01.04.2005

The American company "Sci-Jack" proposes to embed an anti-theft system in the tubular frame of a bicycle, which is a transceiver with a unique number assigned to it.

If the bike is stolen, the owner must call the police, and special transmitters start broadcasting the number of the stolen bike. Its anti-theft system responds by sending out its signal, which is easy to find.

During the ride, the anti-theft battery is constantly powered by a bicycle speaker.
