With cameras for dummies, everything is extremely simple. The main thing is to choose the right "autopilot". Take a picture of a sleeping child by the light of a night lamp - turn on the "night" mode; follow a football match - switch to the mode to capture moving objects. Something interesting is happening against the light - press the BACKLIGHT button. Here, actually, and all technical difficulties. There is a little quirk when using auto focus - your camera will focus on the smallest details, so if you decide to catch your child peeling wallpaper into a small flower, there is a good chance that the wallpaper will be seen best. However, it may be worth shooting them for the last time before the now inevitable repair. Brevity is the soul of wit How difficult it is to resist videotaping every movement of your first-born! I could spend hours filming it! Here he wiggled his toes in a funny way, and here we are yawning, and now let’s see where our hands are reaching... It seems that you can admire this endlessly through the lens of a video camera. But! A couple of months will pass and you will discover that you no longer have clean cassettes (or blanks), and your family and friends, to whom you demonstrate the daily achievements of such a wonderful baby, can barely restrain a yawn, their gaze becomes distracted and for some reason very rarely on the TV screen. Attention! Now read the topic paragraph again. This is true. The master of my course always repeated that you need to have the courage to cut off the excess. We'll talk about editing as such later, but for now the first rule of video shooting: don't get carried away. Shoot in short episodes - from 2 to maximum! 5 minutes. Separate scenes from each other using the FADE function - going in and out of black. This will allow you to differentiate between the captured events and will enable viewers not to get tired while watching and be ready to perceive the new achievements of your offspring. Zoom - the first enemy of beginners An unbridled passion for endless arrivals and departures - even professional operators suffer from this ailment at first. This lever is so conveniently located under the index finger that it is almost impossible to resist and not "joke" it back and forth. It is impossible to see anything later with such a constant change of large and general plan. Try to keep your impulses and if possible, better get closer to the subject. The image will only benefit from this - the more zoom you use, the more the picture will "shake". If you are in an ambush (see paragraph "reportage shooting") and there is no way to approach, then try to "run in" slowly and hold the camera without breathing. Camera movements In recent years, many professionals in their films use a sharp and chaotic camera movement, similar to the movement of the human eye. But what is good for a thriller is not always suitable for shooting the first steps. If you have a need to capture something important at the other end of the room (for example, dad's touching smile, to which the child is moving), try to move the camera smoothly and hold it on a new object (your spouse's blurry face) for at least 5-10 seconds. And only then return to the main culprit, who, for sure, by this moment will decide to return to a more stable position - lying down. The same is true when shooting panoramic ones - for example, when shooting those gathered at the table, do not rush: it is better to capture all the guests carefully and carefully once, while they are still sober, than to try to make out who it was that came to you, in numerous throwing the camera around the room. At first it will be difficult - especially if the camera is small and light, but believe me, smooth (that is, not sharp and not jerking up and down) camera movements are much more pleasant to watch from the screen. In addition, in this case, the camera will have time to "work out" autofocus, and then the face of our happy and proud father with his rich facial expressions will be clearly visible. Use angle shots My dad is very tall. Therefore, the world in his photo and video is captured from a bird's eye view. Mom has a height of meter fifty. Her world is very different from her father's. What is your world? When shooting, try to sit down or, conversely, climb on the table. This will be a real opportunity to look at the surrounding reality through the eyes of, for example, your youngest. Now it’s clear why he so often asks for hands: around him are only his knees, or - at best - the navel of his older brother. Conclusion: to make the video more interesting, don't be afraid to experiment and don't be lazy! At the same time and support the physical form. Reportage shooting and editing At one point, your child, whom you once again decided to capture for history, will show great interest in something shiny and blinking a red eye in your hands more than in the activity that you actually wanted to catch him. And then he will drop everything and go hunting with all two or four. Filming extremely interested baby faces poking at the camera is very interesting, I will not hide it, but soon you will want to shoot something else, for example, how this face feeds itself, but how? There is only one option - to sneak up unnoticed. Here all possible tricks of professional paparazzi are used. To begin with, you can try to make the camera a familiar piece of furniture and keep it ready in STANDBY mode, turn off the sound and light on the camera when recording is turned on, in general, do everything so that the child loses vigilance and relaxes. Well, then it's a matter of technology. The main thing is to quietly turn on REC - here, by the way, the remote control will be very useful. Another feature of spontaneous-event filming is to catch the moment. It happens that in order to provide grandmothers with irrefutable evidence that the little one really takes off the presented beautiful, but not very comfortable slippers, he has to sit in ambush with the camera turned on for a long time. There is only one thing left: to shoot and wait, and then to archive only the short necessary episode. But basically, try to shoot immediately in a montage: here is a close-up of a child when he is very enthusiastically trying to stuff the doll into a box from under the mosaic. Stop camera. And here is a general plan of the room, densely littered with this same mosaic, as well as other gutted boxes in which the doll did not fit, and their (boxes) contents. Stop camera. Laughter behind the scenes will be mounted in the program "The director himself." Are special effects needed? Basically, I use only two additional functions of the camcorder: AUTODATE - this allows you to keep the chronology (but do not forget to reset the calendar after replacing a dead battery!) And TITLE - to highlight especially significant moments with captions (birthday, New Year, morning garden, etc.). By the way, when buying a camcorder, do not pay attention to all sorts of bells and whistles - they are unlikely to be useful for home shooting - focus on endurance and reliability combined with ease of operation. Pay attention also to the required minimum lighting - of course, the smaller it is, the better for evening and night shooting. My camera, for example, is already an old woman (born in 1997), but it will give odds to any new product and it is still far from retirement - I will not advertise a well-known Japanese brand of four English letters. Features of filming matinees Don't try to take everything off. Watching it from beginning to end for the second time is just tiring. It is enough to capture one verse from the song and one round from the dance, well, do not forget about the faces of the parents - they, basically, convey the atmosphere of the holiday. The shooting rules are still the same: do not flicker, try to capture both the general picture of what is happening and close-ups of the personal contribution of your child, who diligently learned a poem about the adventures of Santa Claus. Well, he looks in red flares, of course, stunning. It was not in vain that you spent the whole night poring over the Troubadour costume - this must be removed without fail and in detail. Create a video or DVD archive The main thing here is to empty the working cassette in time, otherwise it will turn out that the film is over as soon as a cake with burning candles is brought into the room - that is, at the most inopportune moment. My technique is very simple. As soon as enough footage accumulates on the tape, transfer it to another medium (video cassette or DVD), and mark the date of shooting and key events on it. Thus, you can get by with one working cassette, rewinding it to the beginning after you have copied everything to the archive. By the way, you can combine business with pleasure. My eldest, for example, likes to watch "a movie about himself as a little one" - if so, then seat the audience in front of the screen, start recording, and you are guaranteed half an hour of silence. The only negative is that when you see yourself blowing soap bubbles on the screen, a child may very urgently want to repeat his record for inflating a giant ball, so, just in case, keep a bottle in reserve.
