Description of how the standard (built-in) VirtualDub filters work.
2:1 reduction (high quality) - Reduces the image size horizontally and vertically by exactly 2 times.
3x3 average - Processes the image by replacing each pixel of the image with some “average pixel”, which is obtained after analyzing neighboring pixels. :)
Blur and Blur more - Blur the image to varying degrees.
box blur - Customizable image blur filter. In the settings there is a "Show preview" button, by clicking which you can immediately see the result of the filter.
Brightness / Contrast - Allows you to change the brightness and contrast of the image.
Deinterlace - Built-in filter to eliminate combing. To be honest, I didn’t like the result of its work; it’s better to use an external “Smart deinterlace” filter.
Emboss - In Adobe Photoshop this effect is called "relief". It's hard to explain in words what it does, it's easier to show it. :)
flip horizontally - Flip the image horizontally.
flip vertically - Flip the image vertically.
Grayscale - Makes the image black and white.
Invert - Inverts colors.
Levels - The filter allows you to adjust the light level of the image. It is proposed to move the sliders to set the value for the darkest/lightest pixels, as well as some average value. Click the "Show Preview" button to immediately monitor the result of the filter. Also, periodically press the “Sample frame” button to see the histogram, it’s easier to navigate and it’s easier to set the sliders.
Mmotion blur - Blurs movement. Moved objects do not disappear immediately.
Null transform - Literally: zero transformation, i.e. By itself, this filter does nothing. It is usually chosen for trimming uneven edges.
Resize - Allows you to change the size of the picture. Set new width and height dimensions. In the "Filter mode" list I usually select "Precise bicubic (A=-1.0)", you can experiment and choose something to your taste. Click the "Show Preview" button to watch what's happening.
Rotate - Rotates the picture by 90, 180 or 270 degrees.
Rotate2 - This filter provides wider possibilities for rotating the image; here you enter the rotation angle yourself.
Sharpen - Increases the contrast between merging elements in the image, to put it simply: increases the sharpness of the image. :)
smoother - Blurs the picture. The filter allows you to set the degree of blur.
Temporal smoother - Blurs the picture in time. :) The filter is somewhat similar to "Motion blur", but the effect is somewhat different.
Threshold - Converts the image to black and white (no grayscale at all).

Researcher Marcus Rex, who led the largest Arctic expedition in history, argues that "the tipping point for irreversible global warming has probably already arrived."
