DRAM production using EUV lithography

SK Hynix announced the start of mass production of 4 Gb LPDDR4266-8 DRAM chips based on the 1a-nm node, which is the fourth generation of process technologies in the 10-20 nm range. This is the first time that SK Hynix has used equipment with extreme ultraviolet lithography (EUV) technology in mass production, after partial implementation in the past.

SK Hynix expects the new technology to lead to improvements in productivity and cost. According to experts, the 1a-nm node will provide a quarter more chips per wafer compared to the previous 1z-nm node. The company plans to start shipping this type of mobile DRAM from the second half of 2021.

Gradually, SK Hynix plans to convert more and more of its memory products to 1a-nm standards, including DDR5 chips for server, desktop and mobile equipment.

Cho Youngmann, VP of SK Hynix, said: "With enhanced performance and cost competitiveness, the latest 1a-nm DRAM will not only help drive high profitability, but also reinforce SK Hynix's status as a leading technology company through early adoption of the technology.
