Creating a slideshow in a video editor is a rather troublesome business, but, more often, a rewarding one. The freedom of creativity in skillful hands can bring very tasty and healthy fruits.

Working window Adobe Premiere CS3

The working window of the editor consists of a set of panels, each of which, if necessary, can be turned into a separate window. There is no structure traditional for many programs: on top - the toolbar, the rest - the workspace of the current document. However, it is common for Adobe products to create non-standard solutions in terms of user interaction.

The purpose of this article is not to fully disclose the possibilities of the editor, it would be too bold and tedious for many. The story is about creating a slide show in Adobe Premiere CS3. However, without understanding the interface, without understanding how to work with the application, it is unlikely that you will be able to do something worthwhile. Therefore, at first it is worth considering the general issues of building an interface in Adobe Premiere CS3.

As mentioned above, the working window consists of a set of panels. The service context menu allows you to unhook them, turning them into independent windows. This is very convenient when working with two monitors. You can leave the essentials on the first table, and leave all additional service panels on the second display. And the standard configuration means displaying most of the available panels within a single monitor.

As in Adobe Photoshop, the concept of Workspace is present here. The editor can switch between panel layouts, which are single workspaces. The most requested workspace is Editing, which is used by default and is intended for editing projects. If you have changed the layout of the panels and want to quickly return to the default values, then just execute the Reset Current Workspace command. In addition, it is possible to save current layouts as custom workspaces.

Adobe Premiere CS3 Project Panel

The project panel is located in the left part of the working window. It displays a list of source files and other objects that will be included in the future movie. Here you can also get acquainted with their properties, make a preview or listen, if we are talking about music.

Below is another panel containing three tabs. You can see information about the current project element, work with the list of effects, and manage the history of changes made to the movie. To perform a rollback of actions, just go to the corresponding line of the list. All elements of the story have descriptions sufficient to understand their essence.

The upper part of the window is divided into two groups of panels. On the left is the audio mixer, which allows you to control the mixing of audio from different tracks. Here, in another tab, there is a control panel for video display effects. Looking ahead, it is worth noting that this panel will be actively used in the manufacture of slide shows.

The player is located on the right side of the window. It has a lot of service functions, in addition to direct video playback. For example, you can show the Safe Zone, that is, the screen borders of the device on which you plan to show the video. In addition to the picture itself, you can display many graphs, a histogram, which, however, are hardly needed when making a slide show.

Below is the Timeline panel - an invariable attribute of any video editor. Unlike Pinnacle Studio 12, there is no hard two-track video limit. Moreover, there is no such thing as a main track, overlay, and so on. All tracks are equal. They fall into two categories - audio and video. The number of tracks is easily adjusted from the Sequence menu.

Adding tracks to an Adobe Premiere CS3 project

Thanks to working with several tracks, it becomes possible to create slides consisting of several photos. The display of each image is independent. For example, you can show one larger photo first, and then add a series of smaller pictures to the screen. There is a spread in time. Similar independence, of course, applies to the animation of the show.

Any track can be temporarily disabled. For video this means hiding, for music it means Mute. Any clip or slide contains a preview thumbnail, the name of the original file. For music, the waveform is shown.

Supports tagging clips. They are divided into three types. The first one allows you to create play areas within a project. Markers are always placed in pairs - incoming and outgoing. The timeline panel displays a darker segment. Now it is convenient to move to its beginning and end, to make its selection. The second type of labels is independent - it just puts a marker. In the future, you can use these labels to navigate back and forth. It is allowed to specify a number for the marker. This is not required, but is available as an option. In this case, it will be possible to immediately go to the label with a certain number. Finally, the last type of labels is a preliminary division of the project into chapters. Adobe Premiere CS3 itself does not have tools for working with DVD menus, however, during the export of projects, it remembers such settings and passes them to disc authoring programs.

Finally, to the right of the Timeline is the sound volume indicator, as well as the tools for working with the panel. For example, you can enable project navigation mode, select arbitrary areas, select in the mode of constantly adding slides / clips, and much more.

At the end of the description of the interface, it is worth noting that showing and hiding the main panels is tied to hot keys. Application settings allow you to change these shortcuts, as well as add new combinations. The default is a fairly dark background color. It also changes in the settings. Gloomy? It's easy to lighten up!

It's time to move on to the actual work on the slide show. Work on any project begins with opening the source files. However, Adobe Premiere CS3 does not allow you to simply add them to the Timeline panel. This applies to both photos, videos and music. In other programs, it is often enough to drag an object from the file manager to the Timeline panel, but here everything is a little more complicated.

Creating a New Project in Adobe Premiere CS3

Immediately after calling the command to create a new project, you need to decide on the video and sound quality parameters, as well as some editor options. There is a series of plot installations. They allow you to quickly create DVD projects, high-definition video, videos for mobile devices. However, you can configure all parameters manually. Here you can specify the video resolution, frame rate, audio sample rate, and more. The parameters for creating streaming video are immediately indicated, for example, the codec and its options are determined. Finally, the editor's settings include the default number of tracks, whether the sound is mono, stereo, or 5.1, and a few more options.

But even after the project is created, it will not be possible to open the files immediately. They need to be imported first. In a good way, the program is designed to capture video from the camera, but in our case it is enough just to specify the files on the hard drive. All this is done from the project panel using the Import command. Each file can be made available Offline. This means that it will be implemented in the project. And from its original position, you can either delete the file or leave it alone.

You can only add files to the Timeline panel after they have been imported inside the project panel. There are two questions or problems here, depending on how you look at it. First - there is no synchronization of the slide show time with the duration of the audio track. This is understandable, this is not required when editing a video, there synchronization is performed by other methods. But what about when creating a slideshow?

Adobe Premiere CS3 settings, General section

The answer lies in the main settings of the application. Here you can set the duration of transition effects between slides and, most importantly, the time the photos are shown. It is not set in seconds, but in the number of frames. However, it does not apply to already opened documents; a second import procedure is required.

The second problem is the scale of the images. By default, all photos are displayed in real scale, which often significantly exceeds the resolution of the video image. As a result, the edges are cut off. Again, the General section of the editor settings allows you to set the default scale to the dimensions of the video window. In other words, no preliminary resizing of photos is required, although it is worth noting that such care increases the speed of the editor and will allow faster video export in the future.

Photos can be added to the Timeline panel as a single track, or multiple tracks can be used for this. In the second case, making collages becomes available - several photos can be displayed on the screen at the same time. By default, all images are fixed, there are no transitions between them - one photo was shown, suddenly it changed to another. Ugly. The same thing happens with music. One song ends, another begins. To somehow brighten up the transitions between clips, you need to turn to the Effects panel. Here are the transition effects between slides and between musical compositions. In the second case, however, the choice is small. It essentially comes down to the Crossfade effect, that is, to the smooth flow of one song into another. The choice of transitions between photos is much richer. There is a classic Fade option here, as well as many more complex effects, some of which use XNUMXD animation.

Simply drag the line with the effect to the appropriate place on the track with the mouse. Everything, it is added to the project, you can check the work from the built-in player. By stretching or shrinking slides and effects in the Timeline panel, you can control how long they run. The exact value of the offset is written in the pop-up yellow window, so such an adjustment cannot be called eye work - everything is done meaningfully.

After the transition effects are placed, the photos change more expressively, with a certain animation. Thanks to the ability to work with multiple tracks, collages are used in some places, and, unlike Pinnacle Studio 12, there is no stereotype here - you determine the position and animation of the images yourself, according to the author's intention. However, at this stage, the photos are still still, their animation has not yet been set.

Manage Slide Show Effects in Adobe Premiere CS3

Zoom, movement, and other image display options are controlled through the Effect Controls panel. Animation control is not entirely trivial and requires some explanation of the general options. Any effect has a certain duration. It is set using control points. Their number is not limited, which allows you to create quite complex animation. The Effect Controls panel is divided into two parts. On the left is a list of effects. On the right is a graph of their application, key points (keyframes). You have enabled some effect, for example, indicating the position of the photo. In this case, using a special button, you can add a key point. It will appear on the right side of the panel. Next, using the mouse, the photo is moved inside the player panel.

Under the key points, a graph of the effect application is displayed. For example, you are working with image scale. If the photo increases, the graph goes up, if it decreases, it goes down. By creating several key points along the slide show, you can change the speed of resizing of the image and, of course, its direction. Scaling is divided into two categories - resizing while maintaining frame proportions and flattening the picture, that is, controlling only one of the sides.

Another animation option is photo rotations. You set the angle of inclination. In addition, it is possible to enter an anchor point around which the rotation takes place. She doesn't have to be in the center of the picture. Make it at the top and the photo will wobble like a painting on a carnation.

The slide show animation control capabilities in Adobe Premiere CS3 are vastly superior to Pinnacle Studio 12 and even rival ProShow Producer. After all, you can also work with animation there using key points, and the set of effects, by and large, does not differ much from what is presented in the product in question.

Add a title using a template in Adobe Premiere CS3

The editor includes a large number of title templates that you can apply at the beginning, end, and progress of your slideshow. They fall into several categories. Within one template, there are full-screen headers, headers and footers, sidebars, and other elements that partially fill the screen and, accordingly, have transparency. Some templates only allow you to enter headings, other themes have support for lists.

Create a slideshow in Adobe Premiere
Adobe Premiere CS3 Title Editor

The presence of templates does not mean the absence of the possibility of manual editing of headings. Even when using a pre-made design, it is possible to enter custom text, which is not surprising, otherwise the whole point of preparing titles is lost. The editor, in turn, has a rich library of text design options, allows you to use multi-line labels, and perform their formatting. Allowed text rotation, scaling. It is possible to draw a series of geometric shapes.

the program allows not only to create screen savers, but also to use moving titles and a running line in them. Both vertical and horizontal text scrolling is supported. You specify the speed at which titles move.

After completing the work on the slide show, you need to export, that is, create a file with streaming video. Even though the basic picture and sound settings were specified at the time the project was created, you can also make some adjustments here.

Create a slideshow in Adobe Premiere
Export project to Adobe Premiere CS3

the program, as one would expect, thinks for a long time, after which it creates a single file with video. Further, it is desirable to authorize the future DVD, but this is already done in other applications. Like Adobe Encore DVD.

Adobe Premiere CS3, in general, looks much more preferable than Pinnacle Studio 12, and there are several reasons for this.

+ the ability to create an unlimited number of tracks and, as a result, the powerful ability to combine multiple images in one slide

+ support for key points allows you to flexibly control the animation of the slide show

There is at least one minus too, but it is, by and large, not serious and will scare only a lazy person who does not want to master an additional software product.

- no possibility to create a DVD menu

the program has a rather high price, but you should not write it down as a minus, because creating a slide show is only a small part of the editor's capabilities. This article touched upon only a small part of the functionality of a professional package designed for video editing and editing.

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Sliding car 03.10.2002

The Swiss company "Rinspeed" showed at this year's motor show in Geneva the sliding car "Presto". At the touch of a button, this open convertible extends 75 centimeters, giving room for two more passengers or a bulky load.

Two more features of the Presto are an unusual engine and the absence of rear signal lights. The engine, converted from a Mercedes diesel engine, runs on a mixture of diesel fuel and natural gas, which reduces the harmfulness of exhaust emissions. And the red lights at the back have been replaced with LED displays. On it, before the turn, the word "turn" appears with an indication of the direction, when braking, the inscription "stop" is lit, and when the driver does not take any action, the name "Presto" is lit on the scoreboard.

Serial production is not planned yet.
