Industrial use of solar heat

Section Alternative energy sources. Not only households, but also businesses use solar water heaters to preheat water before using other methods to bring it to a boil or evaporate. Less exposure to fluctuating energy prices is another factor that makes solar systems an attractive investment. Usually, installing a solar water heater results in quick and significant energy savings. ... >>

Voltage fluctuation protection unit in the mains

Section Protection of equipment from emergency operation of the network. Modern electronic equipment with switching power supplies can operate within a very wide range of mains voltage instability. At the same time, appliances such as refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines are more demanding on the power supply. Deviation of the mains voltage from the norm even by 10% is highly undesirable for some of them. And this applies not only to increasing the voltage, but also to lowering it. For example, when the supply voltage is low, the refrigerator compressor motor may stop ... >>

Acrobatics of lamp cascades

Section Tube power amplifiers. Anyone who is at least a little familiar with tube circuitry knows that tube amplifier stages are usually characterized by extreme simplicity and a small number of elements. This factor, along with the natural linearity of tubes, is usually cited as an argument when trying to explain the phenomenon of the superiority of tube sound over transistor sound. It must be admitted that such an explanation is very convincing from the point of view of common sense. In addition, it is so often confirmed in practice during circuit analysis of the best tube audio components that few people think of trying to challenge it. The main motto of the developers of lamp technology is this: the simpler, the better and more reliable (unfortunately, the concept of cheaper is not included here, although logically it seems to suggest itself). So, let's look at a conventional low-power resistive amplifier stage using a triode with a common cathode. An anode load resistor, a cathode self-bias resistor, a grid leakage resistor, and the triode itself - that’s, in fact, the entire cascade. More precisely, its basic version (Fig. 1) ... >>

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

HDR10+ High Dynamic Range Open Video Standard 01.05.2017

Samsung Electronics and Amazon Video have unveiled a development called HDR10+. This is an updated open standard for adding dynamic metadata to a video stream to improve the contrast of a television image and expand its dynamic range.

HDR10+ adds the Dynamic Tone Mapping extension to the HDR10 standard. HDR10 uses static metadata that does not change during playback, regardless of the brightness of certain scenes. As a result, quality suffers in some cases. For example, if the movie as a whole is quite bright, but it has a few scenes shot in the dark, they will be substantially darker than the director intended.

In the case of HDR10+, dynamic metadata corrects the situation, allowing an HDR-enabled TV to change brightness as you transition from one scene to another, or even as you move from one frame to another. The result is improved image quality that is closer to the director's original intent. In any case, this is how the source describes the advantage of HDR10+.

All 2017 Samsung UHD TVs, including Quantum Dot QLED TVs, support HDR10+. In the second half of the year, Samsung promises to release a firmware update for 2016 models that will add HDR10+ support.

Of course, it is necessary to introduce HDR10 + into the process of production and encoding of video products. Samsung and Amazon Video are doing this together, working with film studios and TV companies.
