Recently, surround or surround sound systems have become more and more popular. Dolby Surround AC-3 has been identified by Dolby Laboratories as a home theater sound system. Due to the fact that in reality this system for the end user is not much different from just Dolby Digital (intended for professional applications), it was decided to combine both technologies under the common name Dolby Digital. Dolby Digital is a further improvement of Dolby's previously developed Dolby Surround and Dolby Pro Logic technologies. The changes affected both the sound recording / playback technology and the methods of its transmission. Information in Dolby Digital technology is transmitted only in digital form and, due to optimal encoding methods, occupies a small amount (less than a normal audio signal).

The main task that the developers of sound coding systems set themselves was to enable the user to "see" sound sources and clearly understand where the source of any sound is located in the simplest and most inexpensive ways. Naturally, initially these systems were conceived only for the film industry, since in cinema the combination of a high-quality image and a three-dimensional sound picture gives the strongest and most noticeable effect even for an inexperienced listener.

Dolby Digital is not a 3D audio format and cannot be used in games to support the gaming environment itself. Sound recorded with Dolby Digital, strictly speaking, does not differ in any way from normal audio and cannot be obtained "artificially", but only by a corresponding recording of real, "live" sound and cannot be changed after recording. Therefore, Dolby Digital sound can accompany a movie, live recording, etc. and will be recorded on a regular film soundtrack.

When DVD video discs appeared, it became possible to record the sound track for films on them in Dolby Digital format, and at the same time, sound card manufacturers immediately became interested in Dolby technologies, since it is quite obvious that the desire to have surround sound along with an excellent picture from a DVD disc appeared among the owners of computers quickly enough.

What do I need to have on my computer to listen to audio recorded with Dolby Digital?

First, the actual signal source with Dolby Digital. Now it is actually only one source - DVD video disc. Secondly, a Dolby Digital signal decoder. Not only the largest manufacturers of sound cards, but also second-tier companies produce sound cards with support for Dolby Digital decoding and 6 outputs.

Thirdly - an acoustic system with a minimum number of speakers from 4 to 5 and a subwoofer (aka LFE).

LFE - Low Frequency Effects Channel - channel for low frequency effects. Strictly speaking, this is not a subwoofer, since the woofers can be part of the front speakers and the low-frequency sounds themselves will be reproduced by them. The sounds of powerful low-frequency sources - explosions, earthquakes, etc. - can be directed here. LFE may not be available, but then these sounds will be directed to the front systems and they should be able to reproduce such sounds without distortion.

A decoder amplifier refers to any source of Dolby Digital decoded audio.

Right and Left Surround refers to the speakers for the left and right side surround channels. They are not simply called rear, because in cinemas, depending on the length of the hall, the left and right Surround systems can consist of dozens of speakers on both the left and right sides of the auditorium.

DVD discs usually have a special marking indicating the type of audio recording format. The table below shows the conventions for recording types:

Battery absorbing carbon dioxide 01.10.2018

At the same time, using gas in a liquid state, specialists have found a way to achieve electrochemical conversion of carbon dioxide using only a carbon electrode. The key is to pre-activate the carbon dioxide by including it in the amine solution.

The scientists demonstrated in a series of experiments that this approach actually works and can produce lithium carbon dioxide batteries with voltages and capacities that are competitive with the latest lithium gas batteries. Moreover, the amine acts as a molecular catalyst that is not consumed during the reaction.
