Focus Description:

The ball is wrapped in a scarf.

Focus secret:

For the demonstration, you need a wooden ball 4,5-5 cm in size, consisting of three parts, with the middle part being movable, and the two side parts fastened together in the middle. The middle part is a ring with a hole in the middle. The ends of this middle part are not rounded, but ground off to allow the ball to move in one direction. And to disguise this, the ball is made striped.

Focus Ball wrapped in a scarf

A mechanism is inserted inside - either a twisting spring, or some kind of "rubber motor". Clings the ball to the end of the handkerchief with a needle sticking out from the middle part. Before demonstration, the middle part is twisted and placed in a special holder, located in a pocket or box. The role of the stopper here again can be performed by the needle.

Having spread the scarf on the table, take out the ball, holding the middle part with your fingers. Hook the needle around the corner of the handkerchief, turn the ball in the desired direction and release your fingers. As it rotates, its middle part will pull the scarf along with it and move diagonally in the opposite direction. The inertia given by rotation will not die out after one revolution, and the ball will be completely wrapped in a scarf.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Triangle of death 29.10.2012

This is the name of an area in the Italian province of Campania, where mortality is increased (especially from cancer), as well as the frequency of genetic defects in newborns.

Recently, Italian geneticists from the University of Naples studied blood samples from 50 women living in the "triangle of death". It turned out that their endings of chromosomes - telomeres - are shorter than in women of the same age living in other areas. Chromosome shortening is usually associated with aging and the presence of strong oxidizing agents in the body. Both lead to an increase in mortality and the frequency of congenital malformations.

Scientists believe that illegal, improperly equipped hazardous waste dumps that seep into the air and water are to blame. There are 1630 of them in the area. It is believed that the local mafia, the Camorra, uses the proceeds from the illegal dumping of poisons.
