Too much lighting when shooting video

Too much light, especially in high-contrast scenes, can be just as problematic as too little light. Sunlight, windows, and other non-adjustable light sources can create problems when illuminating a scene, especially if they enter the frame.

Paradoxical as it may seem, but the light from the windows makes the person behind whom the window is located just a contour cut out of black paper. The first thought that comes to everyone's mind is to increase the lighting. But even the light of a heavy-duty spotlight looks dim compared to the light of the sun shining through the window.

You can, of course, take advantage of the experience of using lighting when filming movies, where reflective screens and reflectors are often used. These surprisingly cheap devices do not require electricity and are often a lifesaver in seemingly hopeless lighting situations. A flat piece of white packaging foam or a piece of cardboard covered with aluminum foil will do as a reflector.

Position the reflective surface so that the reflected light hits the object. It is best to use several reflectors, positioned so that the light from them hits the object from different angles. In cases of strong contrast, even mirrors can be used to direct maximum light onto the object. Move your lights as close to your subject as possible, and keep in mind that when the distance is halved, the illumination is quadrupled.

There are several other ways to deal with excess light: you can install filters on the windows in the form of black tulle curtains, which can be found in any fabric store (one layer of tulle attenuates light by 15%) or colored film, in extreme cases, you can wait until the brightness of the sun the light will not decrease naturally at sunset or until clouds cover it. Even if this light is too much, then the second layer of tulle should not be hung in order to avoid the appearance of the moiré effect. Use window tint instead.

Shooting in the forest or in the shade of a single tree on a sunny day can also deliver unpleasant moments. The contrasting mottled pattern is good in the background, but it doesn't look the best on faces. A dilemma arises: wait for a cloudy day or the appearance of a separate cloud, or correct the situation yourself.

You can use an on-camera fill light, it will illuminate the face of the subject and reduce the contrast.

True, you need to be close to the subject of shooting. You can again try a white reflective sheet, it will help fill in the shadows with light, unless of course there is an area nearby that is lit by direct sunlight.

By the way, in the fight against naughty light, you have one more assistant. Some lens glass filters, like the Tiffen Pro-Mist series, reduce contrast. They can help, but they don't solve the problem. However, using them along with the above recommendations will help you get great results. Filters are quite popular among videographers.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

HDD 4 TB from Hitachi 08.02.2012

The increase in the amount of available content on the Web requires manufacturers to create new solutions for creating resource-intensive HDDs. However, Hitachi decided not to experiment with innovations and released its own Deskstar 7K4000 HDS724040ALE640 hard drive, completely based on "classic" technologies.

According to the manufacturer, the 4 TB hard drive has five platters of the penultimate generation, the capacity of each of which is 800 GB. To connect to a desktop computer, the SATA 3.0 interface is used, which provides a bandwidth of up to 6 Gb / s. The Deskstar 7K4000 HDS724040ALE640 has a 64 MB cache and a 7200 rpm spindle speed.

As an addition to its lineup, the company also released a "green" version of the HDD: Deskstar 5K4000. The 3,5-inch form factor also accommodates 5 800 GB platters. The spindle speed, unlike 7K, is smaller: 5900 rpm, and the buffer size is 32 MB. Despite the fact that the cost of the Deskstar 5K4000 has not yet been disclosed, the 7K model is already available in Japanese retail for $380.
