The myth of television operators

Many organizations filming events (weddings, graduations, etc.) present the fact that they have "television cameramen" as an additional trump card. For me, "television cameraman" is not a sign of quality, but an alarm bell. Usually, for a wedding or last call, people ask to shoot as much as possible, not everything is included in the wedding film (depending on the agreements and creativity of the editor), everything should be included in the film about the last call, except for outright crap.

TV operators think in terms of a 5-minute reportage - you need to grab as many spectacular shots as possible, spitting on the sound, because then the sound will be put on anyway, you don’t need to shoot everything either, because if you shoot 2 hour from a 1-hour event, then for a 5-minute report in any way you can cut it. Only a cameraman can think of turning off the camera in the middle of a performance in order to change the shooting point, after which the editor will have to rack his brains by joining two pieces of a song.

Of course, not all TV operators are like that, but for some reason, most of us meet exactly those described.

At the same time, the experience of working on TV and advanced training courses for cameramen are very useful for the operator.

Another "danger" of working with cameramen is shooting on Betacam. Filming may cost less than other operators, but if you accidentally or specifically shoot on Betacam, then with the footage you will find yourself tied to television editing, editing in which is much more expensive than "semi-professional" editing with DV.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Drones against coronavirus 23.02.2020

Drones are deployed in China to fight the coronavirus. Of course, the fight in this case is not directly with the virus, just drones help to perform certain work related to the outbreak.

First, loudspeaker drones are flying over the streets, reminding residents to wear masks. And although masks are intended primarily for those who have already become infected, of course everyone wears them.

The second drone scenario is even more interesting. Drones are being used at some road checkpoints. In particular, at the exit from the expressway in Shenzhen. Drones fly over the road with a large sign with a QR code attached. It is needed so that by scanning it, drivers and passengers can register on a certain government website and leave information about their health status there. Drones in this case are used so that the police have less contact with people in cars.

Let me disagree with some of the statements of the author of this article. No one argues that a significant part of cameramen work "left" - weddings, anniversaries, corporate parties, etc. But the cameraman, if he is not a complete fool (I'm sorry), usually realizes the specifics of reportage, studio and "wedding" filming. In any case, the vast majority of my colleagues are quite competent. Experience naturally comes with age. [;)]
