Geneticists from the company Embark Veterinary (USA) tested the DNA of more than three thousand dogs, including Siberian Huskies, as well as dogs of other breeds with blue and brown eyes. The results showed that all blue-eyed dogs are united by a mutation in the PMEL17 gene. At the same time, another anomaly is observed in the husky - in the ALX4 gene. Further studies showed that one section in the vicinity of the ALX4 gene doubled and became longer by about 100 thousand nucleotides - the "building blocks" of DNA.

The site in which the “failure” occurred is responsible for the activity of the MITF gene associated with the work of melanocyte pigment cells. These cells determine the color of the eyes, and in humans also the color of the hair and skin. The disruption in this area caused ALX4 to malfunction, causing more light pigment molecules to appear in the Siberian Husky's iris.

According to study authors Adam Boyko and Aaron Sams, this is the first study of the genome of animals - not humans - in the field of consumer genomics. This industry allows using a DNA test to determine not only the origin of our ancestors, but also to obtain information about the phenotype: for example, lifestyle habits, habits and other characteristics.

According to a study conducted by Scandinavian scientists, the age of the partners influences the success of assisted reproduction methods such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) and intracytoplasmic injection (ICSI).

The study included an analysis of 4833 IVF/ICSI cycles involving more than 4 thousand participants. It turned out that only 40,8% of cycles led to the birth of a healthy child.

Scientists found that in most cases, men were older than their partners, and this had a negative impact on the success of the procedures. It was noted that in young men under the age of 50, IVF/ICSI cycles were more successful.

It is important to note that parental age over 50 years significantly reduces the likelihood of a successful birth of a child using assisted reproduction methods. Scientists urge men to make the decision to become a father decisively, as the task can become more difficult over time.
