In modern amateur radio designs with universal power supply (mains and battery), the supply voltage usually does not exceed 12 V. Meanwhile, for some electronic devices used in such devices (for example, vacuum fluorescent indicators), the operating voltage is somewhat higher - up to 30 V. For the efficient use of many types of varicaps, it is also desirable to apply control voltages up to 20 ... 30 V to them. Such voltages can be obtained in designs with low-voltage power supply using a voltage converter.

A diagram of one of the variants of such a converter is shown in fig. 4.15.

Voltage converter on the timer 1006VI1, 12/30 volts

To receive high-voltage pulses, it uses a storage choke. A pulse generator with a repetition frequency of about 1 kHz is assembled on the DA40 timer (it is determined by the resistance of resistors R1, R2 and the capacitance of capacitor C1). These pulses are fed to the transistor VT1, operating in the switching mode. When it is open, energy is stored in the inductor L1 due to the current flowing through VT1. When the transistor closes, a voltage pulse appears on coil L1, the amplitude of which is several times higher than the supply voltage (in the author's design, it was about 80 V). These voltage pulses are rectified by the diode VD1, and the rectified voltage is filtered and then stabilized by the zener diode VD2.

Transistor VT1 is desirable to choose from among those intended for use in switching circuits. In particular, it must have a high allowable collector-emitter voltage (not lower than 100 V). Diode VD1 should also have a high reverse allowable voltage.

Zener diode VD2 - low power for the required output voltage (in the author's design - 30 V). The DA1 timer has an analogue of domestic production - KR1006VI1. There is no detailed information about the inductor in the primary source. It is only noted that it is made on an open armored magnetic circuit made of a material with a high initial magnetic permeability with a copper wire with a diameter of 0,1 mm.

When adjusting the design, it may be necessary to select the resistor R3 for the highest rectified voltage.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Honor Superfast 100W Wireless Charging 19.04.2022

Honor has announced a wireless charging station called Honor Superfast. The device has a power of 100 W and is able to charge not only smartphones, but also headphones that support wireless charging, as well as electronic gadgets that support the Qi standard.

The Honor Superfast 100W has a vertical design and a fairly minimalist design. The device is made of metal and also uses a dual coil design, which allows you to place the smartphone not only vertically but also horizontally. In addition, the charging dock is equipped with a built-in cooling fan that adjusts its speed according to different scenarios.

The LED indicator mounted on the device case indicates the state of charging, as well as the ingress of foreign objects between the back cover of the gadget and the surface of the device itself.

According to the Chinese manufacturer, thanks to Honor Superfast, the smartphone will charge from 0 to 100% in just 35 minutes. At present, the Honor Magic 100 series supports the 4W ultra-fast wireless charging standard. However, the charger can charge devices from other brands.

Honor Superfast 100W is already available for sale in China. The cost of the device is 399 yuan ($62).
