More intense than 16 kV is sometimes necessary for experiments, powering cathode ray tubes, etc.

Adjustable high voltage converter

Converter of low-voltage (20-50V) voltage to high-voltage (8-16kV) consists of a master oscillator with self-excitation, a power amplifier and a rectifier. The master oscillator is assembled on a V8 transistor according to the blocking oscillator circuit. From the output winding I of the transformer T2, the signal is fed to the power amplifier (transistor V1), the load of which is the transformer T1. High voltage is removed from winding I of this transformer and fed to a rectifier with voltage doubling (V2, V3, V4, V5). When the rectifier is turned on for a capacitive load, resistors R1 and R2 limit the high voltage pulse.

The output voltage is regulated by changing the supply voltage.

The high-voltage transformer T1 is made from the TVS-110LA output line transformer. You can use any other from modern or old TVs by removing the anode winding from it without disassembling the core. Instead of this winding, a new one is wound, consisting of 18 turns of PEV-2-0,44 wire with a tap from the 14th turn. The high voltage winding is left unchanged.

Transformer T2 is wound on a K20 x 12X6 ring magnetic circuit made of M2000NM1 ferrite. Collector winding III and feedback winding II are wound first. They contain 25 each, and the output winding I - 15 turns of PEV-2 wire - 0,44.

To prevent the possibility of corona discharges, the elements must be soldered very carefully during installation, without sharp corners, and filled with epoxy with a layer of 2 mm. In extreme cases, paraffin can be used instead of epoxy.

Resistors R1 and R2 - type KEV, capacitor C1 - POV or KVI, K15-4. The gap between the board on which the converter is assembled and the walls of the case must be at least 20 mm.

The adjustment of the converter is reduced to the selection of the resistor R6 * to obtain stable operation of the master oscillator. Capacitor C1 is selected at the maximum output voltage according to the minimum current of the transistor V1.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Texas Instruments to release ULP Bluetooth chips 22.07.2007

Texas Instruments has announced its intention to develop chips for ultra low-voltage (ultra lowpower, ULP) powered miniature devices that comply with the new ULP Bluetooth specification. Nokia initiated the development of this extension of the main standard, and the technology was previously known under the brand name Wibree.

It is assumed that from a very small, "coin" battery, the ULP Bluetooth chip will be able to work for about a year, the range will be 10 meters, and the transmission rate will be up to 1 Mbps. The frequency range is the same - 2,4 GHz.

TI intends to produce both types of possible implementations of ULP Bluetooth - both chips that support only one mode and are able to communicate only with their counterparts, and chips with two modes of communication, allowing you to exchange data not only with "their own kind", but also with devices equipped with a "traditional" Bluetooth interface.
