In amateur radio designs, there is often a need for several supply voltages, while the power supply produces only one, and reworking it is quite complicated.

At low consumption currents, various voltage converters (multipliers) can be used. Many of them are complex and require expensive components.

Compact and convenient pulse voltage converters. I propose my version of such a converter based on a simple and very popular type 555 timer integrated circuit (domestic analogue - KR1006VI1). The converter allows you to get two voltages from +5 V: +10 V and -5 V.

Voltage doubling converter

From the output (pin 3) DA1, operating in multivibrator mode, the pulses are sent to two rectifiers with voltage doubling. The first of them (on diodes VD2, VD3 and capacitor C6) provides an output voltage of -10 V relative to the power supply (+5 V), which is equivalent to a voltage of -5 V relative to the common wire.

The second rectifier (on diodes VD1, VD4 and capacitor C7) produces a voltage of +10 V relative to the common wire. The frequency of the pulses generated by DA1 is about 60 Hz and is regulated by the potentiometer PR in the range of 50...60 Hz.

The frequency of the generator, in principle, is not critical and can be changed up to a high one - on the order of several tens of kilohertz. To do this, you should use the recommendations for the use of IC 555.

When the converter is supplied with a voltage of a different value, for example, +15 V, voltages of -15 and +30 V are obtained at the outputs of the converter.

As diodes VD1. VD4 in the circuit used KD522 Instead, 1 N4148 will successfully fit. The timer chip can be used from any series (NE555, LM555). Capacitors C4 ... C7 must withstand a voltage not less than the output (in a 5-volt converter -15 V, in a 15-volt converter - 50 V).

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

125W Thinkplus Lipstick Charger 11.11.2022

Lenovo has introduced a new Thinkplus Lipstick branded charger. It received compact dimensions of 73 x 30 x 35 mm, a power of 100 W and a shape resembling lipstick.

According to the manufacturer, the charging dimensions are 50% smaller than conventional power supplies with the same capacity. Three GaN chips and AHB architecture were installed inside the charger, which reduces power loss. Thinkplus Lipstick is compatible with different charging protocols: PD 3.0, QC 3.0 and PPS. Using the device, you can charge laptops, smartphones, tablets, game consoles and other gadgets.

Lenovo Thinkplus Lipstick has already started selling in China for $48. The novelty comes with a 1,8-meter USB-C cable.

The Motorola charger has a USB-C port and 125W power output. The power supply is capable of charging the current flagship Moto X30 Pro from 0 to 50% in just 7 minutes.

The device also supports Power Delivery 3.0, Quick Charge 3.0, Quick Charge 5.0 and various security protocols. For example, from power surges, overheating, etc. The charging case is made of flame retardant matte material. The novelty comes with a meter USB-C cable.

The charger has already gone on sale in China. The novelty costs $34.
