On fig. 4.11 shows a voltage doubler circuit capable of providing a current of up to 2 A in the load. The converter is based on a pulse generator on a logic element DD1.1, covered by a feedback circuit R1, C1, R2, which sets the generation frequency. The pulse signals generated by the generator in antiphase are fed to the inputs of the logic elements DD1.3 and DD1.4, which control powerful key transistors VT1 and VT2.

Powerful transformerless voltage converter, 5-15/10-30 volts 2 amps

To eliminate the possibility of a short circuit of the power source during their switching to the second inputs of the elements DD1.3 (through the inverter DD1.2) and DD1.4, pulses are received that are delayed by about a quarter of the period by the integrating circuit R3, C2. Due to this, the opening pulses (of negative polarity relative to the emitters) on the bases of the transistors are separated in time, and the through current through both transistors is excluded. If the transistor VT2 is open, the capacitor C3 is charged through the diode VD1 to the power supply voltage.

After half a period, transistor VT1 opens, capacitor C3 is connected in series with the source, and capacitor C4 is charged through diode VD2 to almost double the supply voltage. IC CD4093 can be replaced by K561TL1. Transistors should be used from the KT825 series and diodes from the KD212 series. To reduce the level of ripples at maximum load currents, it is desirable to increase the capacitance of capacitors C3 and C4 to 10 μF and, in addition, connect a film or ceramic film with a capacity of 4 ... 0,1 μF in parallel with capacitor C1.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Simplifying the processing of wood into biofuels 23.04.2021

A new simplified process converts wood waste from agriculture and forestry into ethanol.
Teams from the Lawrence Berkeley Lab and Sandia National Laboratories have come up with a simplified and efficient way to convert wood into liquid biofuels. It turned out that a simple trick turns wood waste into biofuel.

It has previously been known that the addition of formaldehyde during wood pretreatment converts up to 80 percent of lignin into molecules that are used to make fuels and chemicals. The resulting ethanol, derived from plant biomass, can be used as an ingredient in the production of more complex diesel and jet fuels.

Widespread, fast-growing trees such as poplar can be a sustainable source of biofuel that does not affect the food supply. The first step in today's biofuel production process is to remove the fibrous lignin that surrounds the sugar cellulose that is fermented to produce fuel.

By removing woody biomass from forests and agricultural areas in this way, several urgent problems can be solved at once.

This is done through an expensive process that requires high temperatures and harsh chemicals. This changes the chemical bonds in the polymers of lignin so it cannot be used and is thrown away as waste. Millions of tons of lignin waste are produced in a similar way by the paper industry.

Currently, the most common source of bioethanol is corn starch, which is much easier to break down chemically but requires land, water and other resources to produce.

The developed technology can also be used to produce "drip" biofuels, more complex diesel and jet fuels.
