Interactive panel for classrooms with motion sensors

03.07.2012

Smart Technologies, a provider of collaboration solutions, announced the release of the Smart Board 8055i interactive flat panel for classrooms. The Smart Board 8055i interactive panel combines a 139,7 cm (55 inch) high-definition LCD display for shadow-free viewing with advanced multi-touch input technology.

The Smart Board 8055i is equipped with motion sensors, which automatically detects user movements to quickly turn on and off the device, thereby increasing energy savings and panel life, says Smart. The display body is made of high-strength materials, and the display surface is scratch-resistant and anti-reflective to reduce friction and glare.

Smart Board 8000 series interactive flat panels combine powerful collaboration with high image quality. DViT (Digital Vision Touch) technology, which is implemented in interactive panels 8055i, provides multi-touch capabilities, freedom of action when working with displayed content, recognition of input objects (finger, pen or object for erasing from the board) and finger movements on the touch surface (recognition the most common movements such as panning and flipping pages, as well as gestures for working with objects - zooming, dragging and rotating), which allows for collaborative learning.

With the Smart Board 8055i Interactive Flat Panel, users can simultaneously select objects, move them, or make notes on them (using Smart Ink). In the near future, Smart also plans to launch even larger Smart Board 8000 series interactive flat panels to offer educators a wider range of displays for teaching and collaboration.

Smart Board 8055i owners are offered Smart Notebook software for collaborative learning and access to the Smart Exchange website, where educators can connect with like-minded people and share their ideas. In addition, about 60 thousand different digital materials available for download have been published on this resource.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Primium Seneca keyboard 05.05.2024

Keyboards are an integral part of our daily computer work. However, one of the main problems that users face is noise, especially in the case of premium models. But with the new Seneca keyboard from Norbauer & Co, that may change. Seneca is not just a keyboard, it is the result of five years of development work to create the ideal device. Every aspect of this keyboard, from acoustic properties to mechanical characteristics, has been carefully considered and balanced. One of the key features of Seneca is its silent stabilizers, which solve the noise problem common to many keyboards. In addition, the keyboard supports various key widths, making it convenient for any user. Although Seneca is not yet available for purchase, it is scheduled for release in late summer. Norbauer & Co's Seneca represents new standards in keyboard design. Her ... >>

The world's tallest astronomical observatory opened 04.05.2024

Exploring space and its mysteries is a task that attracts the attention of astronomers from all over the world. In the fresh air of the high mountains, far from city light pollution, the stars and planets reveal their secrets with greater clarity. A new page is opening in the history of astronomy with the opening of the world's highest astronomical observatory - the Atacama Observatory of the University of Tokyo. The Atacama Observatory, located at an altitude of 5640 meters above sea level, opens up new opportunities for astronomers in the study of space. This site has become the highest location for a ground-based telescope, providing researchers with a unique tool for studying infrared waves in the Universe. Although the high altitude location provides clearer skies and less interference from the atmosphere, building an observatory on a high mountain poses enormous difficulties and challenges. However, despite the difficulties, the new observatory opens up broad research prospects for astronomers. ... >>

GE Haliade-X Offshore Wind Turbine 26.12.2022

GE Renewable Energy announced that its 12MW+ Haliade-X wind turbine received full type certification for operation up to 14,7MW from DNV (the world's largest independent certification body).

DNV is an internationally accredited registrar and classification society headquartered in Hevik, Norway. Previously, Haliade-X received certification confirming that the turbine can operate at up to 13,6 MW.

The full type certificate is a test of the safety and reliability of the turbines, according to the design specifications (Haliade-X is currently the largest wind turbine with full certification).

The certification process for Haliade-X (14.7 MW) included a series of tests on a prototype located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The prototype has been extensively tested since November 2019 and has set several world records for continuous power output in a single day.

“At DNV, we forecast 2 TW of installed offshore wind power by 2050. This development is also linked to larger turbines such as GE's Haliade-X. Increasing the size of the turbines, blades and tower will improve the capacity factors. We are pleased to support GE with our certification services to provide safe and reliable wind turbines that support the growth of wind power,” said Kim Sandgaard-Merck, Executive Vice President, Renewable Energy Certification at DNV

The GE Haliade-X 14,7 MW-220 offshore wind turbine alone can generate up to 76 GWh of gross annual power generation. It has the potential to power the equivalent of 20 European households and avoid nearly 000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

The 14,7 MW Haliade-X will be commissioned for the first time at the 3,6 GW Dogger Bank wind farm in the UK, which will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world when completed. It is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, Equinor and Vargronn, located off the east coast of Yorkshire.

Due to its size and scale, Dogger Bank is being built in three consecutive phases: A, B and C. Dogger C will use 87 Haliade-X 14 MW turbines. The first three phases will provide electricity to up to six million homes in the UK (there are about 28,1 million households in the country). In the case of the implementation of the fourth phase, the capacity of the world's largest offshore wind farm will reach almost 5 GW.
