ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Tyco Electronics / AMP Micro CPC series connectors. Reference data Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Reference materials Round connectors of the CPC family, produced by the world leader - Tyco Electronics / AMP, are an analogue of domestic ShR type connectors. Circular connectors are widely used in various industries, in particular in the production of machine tools, various industrial, measuring and medical equipment, as well as in automotive electronics. Designers show particular interest in CPC connectors when developing equipment designed for operation under adverse external factors. CPC connectors are manufactured for operation in equipment with IP 67 protection class, i.e. high humidity and dusty conditions. Connectors of the CPC family are manufactured with a special guide that prevents incorrect connection of the connectors, which is an undoubted advantage when using these connectors in equipment installed in places with difficult access or limited visibility. The CPC connectors have signal and power contacts. Contacts are manufactured both in the version for soldering and for crimping with a special tool AMP. Depending on the series of connectors, the contacts are designed for various voltages and currents from 7,5 A to 50 A. At the choice of the customer, CPC connectors can be equipped with several options for fixing and sealing the cable, as well as sealed covers and plugs that prevent dirt from entering the contacts or inside the connector. The high popularity of the CPC family of connectors around the world is evidenced by the fact that Tyco Electronics / AMP, in order to constantly support the production of CPC connectors, has invested in the development of a new series of miniature CPC connectors. In November 2001 the company announced the global availability of a new series of connectors Microphone C.P.C. As in previous series, connectors Microphone CPC provide cable-to-cable, cable-to-panel, or cable-to-board connections with minimal connector dimensions. Their diameter is 9,5 mm for a connector with 2…7 pins and 13,5 mm for a connector with 12…19 pins. The appearance of these connectors is shown in Figures 1 and 2. Rice. 1. Appearance of Micro CPC series connectors Rice. 2. Appearance of Micro CPC series connectors The indisputable advantage of the series Microphone CPC is the use of a new development - "elastic spring" contacts, providing excellent electrical compatibility and low transient losses, resistance to vibration and mechanical shock. The tightness of the connector according to IP 65 class, the permissible current up to 2 A per contact and the possibility of 5000 mating cycles make them very attractive for the production of portable communication equipment, as well as portable measuring (including medical) instruments. Characteristics of the series connectors Microphone CPC: • working current - up to 2 A; • operating voltage - up to 250 V; • working temperature - (-55…+105)°С • admissible wire section for soldering - 0,05…0,22 mm 2 ; • contact material - copper alloy with gold coating 30 microns; • number of contacts : 2…7 for 9,5 mm connector, 12…19 for 13,5 mm connector The appearance of Micro CPC series connectors is shown in Figure 3. Rice. 3. Appearance of Micro CPC series connectors CPC connectors series 1 Number of contacts - 4…37 contacts. The connector housing is made of black thermoplastic.
