Everyone knows how corn and sunflowers grow. But hardly many people imagine what their cleaning looks like. On large areas, of course, combines and other machines operate, but on small, say, school or experimental plots, lawn shears are still used to this day. However, such work is very tiring and, most importantly, unproductive. Our young technicians Tolya Sinkevich and Sasha Ketiya set out to develop a hand-held mower for large-stemmed plants. They came up with a simple and interesting design, which formed the basis of the mechanism. Finally, the mower "taken shape" after a number of improvements and improvements proposed by Sasha Malkov and Sergey Bolgarchuk: now it is a real unit that not only mows, but even carefully lays down cut plants.

They are beveled with the help of two metal circular knives with counter rotation. The knives are driven by two gearboxes - gears with intersecting shafts and a chain drive from the drive wheel sprocket when pushing the mower.

To collect beveled stems, a pick-up with a cage welded from metal bars is designed, on which cut plants fall. There is also a pick-up control mechanism: a chain drive, a gear reducer and a pair of right-angled rods acting like a crank. The deviation of the handle of the control unit is transmitted with the help of a chain, gearbox and rods to the cage: it leans to the side, and the stems fall off it. By moving the handle in the opposite direction, you can return the cage to its place.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Search for new lands 28.08.2010

Near a distant star, a new method has found the lightest planet, only 15 times heavier than the Earth.

One method in the arsenal of planet hunters is to observe the changes in the intensity of the glow of a distant star when it is eclipsed by a large planet. They can also search for small planets, however, not directly, but by changes in the time of such an eclipse. If it really changes for a minute or two, then you should connect the computer and, on the basis of the calculation, find out which planets, invisible to the naked eye, cause such consequences.

Dr. Grazian Maciejowski from the University of Jena and colleagues proved the efficiency of this method and found a very light (with a mass like that of Uranus, that is, 15 times heavier than the Earth) planet near the star WASP-3 in the constellation Lyra. A small planet revolves around a star in 3,5 days, and the radius of its orbit is twice that of the main planet of the system - hot Jupiter with a mass of 630 Earth masses.

And if there was a planet with a mass of the Earth, would you notice it? Yes, because it would cause changes in the transit time of a hot Jupiter on the order of one minute, and this can be seen even with a small telescope with a mirror diameter of one meter.
