Each gardener, along with purchased devices, always has home-made ones. Particularly comfortable, productive, practical, which you can not buy in any store. You too can add to your arsenal of tools. Simple but effective gardener's and gardener's tools, which can be made in a few evenings, we offer in this issue.

The possibilities of an electric drill as a universal drive for many home machines and devices are truly inexhaustible. Most recently, we published a diagram of an electric mower with reciprocating blades. Today we offer another mower with the same drive, but now with a rotating blade. The design of the unit is simple, it can be made even in the conditions of a home workshop, replacing the turned parts with curved ones from the sheet and welding with bolted joints.

Structurally, the mower is a four-wheel cart; an impeller-knife is fixed in the picoli of a vertically mounted drill. The engine turns on - and a sharply sharpened "propeller" cuts the grass, leaving an awn no more than two or three centimeters high.

The base of the trolley (platform!) is duralumin (5 mm thick) or plywood (15 mm thick | plate with cutouts for wheels and screwed front and rear axles. The diameters of the axles must correspond to the holes in the wheels from a pram or tricycle.

On the axis of symmetry of the platform, a round hole is cut for the cone of the drill. The tool itself is fixed on the platform with a clamp, the body of which is turned on a lathe from steel, and the clamping lugs are welded to it. According to the same dimensions, a clamp can also be made from sheet steel with a thickness of 2 mm.

The mower knife is cut from a 1,5 mm thick steel strip. One of its sides is sharpened at an angle of 30 °, and the other is bent, as shown in the figure. For docking leather with a drill, you will need a flange and a washer, they can be machined on a lathe. The knife, flange and washer are connected with M6 countersunk screws. After assembly, the screws are punched out. You can do without turning work by holding the knife in a hairpin between two nuts and washers.

The mower handle is welded from steel pipes Ø 20-22 mm and a steel plate with dimensions of 10x30x90 mm. A steel box is welded between the pipe-handle and the pipe-rod - an electrical connector and a toggle switch for turning on the engine are located on it. The rod is fixed on the platform through the sector: this design allows you to change its angle with respect to the platform.

And the last thing to do is to install the knife guard. It is bent from a steel or duralumin strip and fixed to the platform with several steel corners and five-millimeter bolts with nuts.

After preliminary assembly and testing of the mower, the unit is disassembled, painted and reassembled. An electrical connector, a toggle switch are mounted on it, handles from a bicycle steering wheel are pulled onto the crossbar of the lever - and with a mower you can go out onto the lawn. When mowing grass, make sure that the electric wire does not get under the knife.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

A new type of tablet from Lenovo 11.09.2016

Lenovo has introduced Yoga Book - a new type of tablet, as it was dubbed by the Western media. The manufacturer himself claims that the work of the Yoga Book is fundamentally different from how tablets of a similar form factor already present on the market work.

Yoga Book consists of two halves connected by a branded hinge, similar to a wristwatch strap. The company already uses such a hinge in its convertible Yoga laptops, making them easily recognizable in the market.

The first half of the Yoga Book contains a touch screen, the second half is a touch area across the entire surface area, on which, like on the screen, you can also write with a stylus. When laptop mode is activated, LEDs in this half turn on, which illuminate the buttons of the touch keyboard. The touch area turns into a touch keyboard.

Lenovo showed several use cases for the Yoga Book. The first and easiest scenario is a laptop. The second scenario - half thrown for half, tablet mode with a touch screen. The third scenario is the most interesting. In it, the device is proposed to be placed on the table in expanded form. Next - put a sheet of paper on the half with the touch area. You can write on this sheet of paper with a stylus and the tablet will automatically recognize this text through the paper.

The stylus for the Yoga Book is unusual: in addition to its standard role, it can write with ink, like a fountain pen. Thus, in the last scenario, the user will write on a piece of paper, he will receive a copy of the handwritten document, and a recognized copy in electronic form.

The Yoga Book has a 10,1-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The amount of RAM is 4 GB, the amount of flash drive is 64 GB. The novelty is equipped with an Intel Atom X5 processor. Depending on the configuration, the computer may be equipped with the Microsoft Windows 10 or Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. The company said that the Android firmware is customized, with support for all of the specified operating scenarios.

The Yoga Book will be available in September 2016 for €499 for the Android version and €599 for the Windows version.
