 Comments on the article

Capacitors with an organic film dielectric have very high and stable electrical characteristics with relatively small dimensions. These capacitors are indispensable in cases where such parameters as low charge absorption, exceptionally high time constant, low losses over a wide frequency range are decisive.

Organic dielectrics are also used for the manufacture of specialized capacitors - energy-intensive pulsed ones, as well as those designed for increased reactive power when operating at low and high frequency alternating voltage.

Among capacitors with an organic dielectric, three most popular classes can be distinguished. These are, firstly, K73 (K74) with a film of polar dielectric - polyethylene terephthalate; secondly, K78 with a film of high-frequency non-polar dielectric - polypropylene and. finally. K75 - with combined insulation, capacitor paper plus film.

Below are the characteristics of general purpose capacitors of the indicated classes

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Eco-friendly thorium nuclear reactor 25.07.2021

China plans to build the world's first experimental thorium nuclear reactor that does not require water to cool. Such a reactor can be called "clean".

The reactor will run on liquid thorium, and molten salts will be used for cooling. Such a setup would have a whole host of advantages. Firstly, the reactor does not require a huge amount of water, that is, it can work in desert regions. Secondly, thorium is much cheaper than uranium, and its decay does not produce elements that can be used to create nuclear weapons. Third, the waste from such a reactor has a half-life of 500 years versus 10 years for a uranium reactor.

In addition, in the event of an unforeseen situation, the cooling salt quickly hardens, effectively sealing the radioactive thorium.

The prototype of the 2 MW reactor will be ready in August, and the first tests will start in September. A full-scale reactor with a capacity of 100 MW will be ready only by 2030. It is planned to be built in the city of Wuwei.
