ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING Microcontrollers of popular families. Reference data Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Reference materials Today, thousands of types of microcontrollers (MC) are produced in the world. In the group of leaders such companies as Atmel. Dallas Semiconductor, Intel, Infineon Technologies (former Siemens Semiconductor Group), Microchip Technology Inc., Philips Semiconductors. Zilog and others. The main classification feature of MK is the bit depth of data processed by the arithmetic logic unit (ALU). On this basis, they are divided into 4-, 8-, 16-. 32 and 64 bit. The largest share of the global MC market belongs to eight-bit devices (about 50% in value terms). They are followed by 16-bit and DSP-MK (DSP - Digital Signal Processor - digital signal processor). Within each group, MKs are divided into CISC and RISC devices (see article "Microcontrollers for beginners. And not only..." in "Radio", 1999, No. 2, pp. 21-23). The tables show the main technical characteristics of 8- and 16-bit microcontrollers of the most popular families in Russia. Their manufacturers have their official distributors in our country, so the MK of these companies are real candidates for use in Russian developments. We hope that the published materials will facilitate the process of choosing a suitable MC for developers at a very early stage of the project. The following abbreviations are accepted in the tables: CAN - intercontroller network interface: CO - clock signal output; DMA - direct memory access; DPTR - Data Address Pointer Register: GSC - Global Serial Channel; ISP - in-circuit programming; I2C - two-wire bidirectional bus; MPSC - multiprotocol serial interface; OFD - clock loss detection system; OSD controller - controller for displaying information on the screen; PBI - interprocessor interface bus; РСА - array of programmable counters: SCC - smart card controller; UART - universal asynchronous serial transceiver; UPI - Universal Peripheral Interface; WDT - watchdog timer; ADC - analog-to-digital converter (number of inputs x number of digits, bits); PWM - pulse-width modulator (number of outputs x number of bits); EMF - electromagnetic interference. Package: D - DIP, L - LCC, Q - QFP, S - SSOP, SOIC. The following abbreviations are used in the tables given here: BBU - battery support: CAN - inter-controller network interface: DMA - direct memory access; DPTR - data address pointer register; 12C - two-wire bidirectional bus; OTP - one time programming; PCA - an array of programmable counters; RTC - real time timer; SCC - smart card controller; SPI - serial peripheral interface; UART - universal asynchronous serial transceiver; UPI - Universal Peripheral Interface; USB - universal serial bus; WDT - watchdog timer; ADC - analog-to-digital converter (number of inputs x number of bits, bits); VAC - built-in analog comparator; PWM - pulse-width modulator (number of outputs x number of bits): Case: D - DIP, L - LCC. Q - QFP, S - SSOP, SOIC: SO - SOIC, SS - SSOP. RISC microcontrollers of Microchip's PIC-micro family. Authors: Yu.Zobnin, G.Volokh, Moscow See other articles Section Reference materials.
