High Voltage Rectifier Diodes

On all graphs Iarr=f(Uarr) on the horizontal axis are plotted in relative units of the ratio of the current values of the reverse voltage to the maximum allowable reverse voltage Uo6p.o=Uo6p/Uo6p max.

In the intermediate temperature range (for KD243A-KD243Zh 75...125°C; for KD247A-KD247D 55...125-°C; for KD257G, KD257D, KD258G, KD258D - 55...155°C; for KD257A- KD257V, KD258A-KD258V - 65...155°C) the direct average current of the diodes must be reduced as the body temperature increases according to a linear law.

The technical conditions prescribe to measure the case temperature at the diode output at a distance of 2 mm (for the KD-4B case) and 10 mm (for the KD-29A and KD-29V case) from the edge of the case. A distinctive design feature of the considered diodes is the mounting of the crystal on a pre-flattened output. Therefore, by the way, when mounting diodes on a board, the leads should be bent no closer than 3 ... 5 mm from the edge of the case in order to avoid breakage of the crystal, and the bending radius should not be less than the lead diameter.

It is necessary to effectively remove heat from the crystal of these diodes directly through the leads. The relatively low speed and increased static losses in the diodes lead to the fact that at a voltage and current not exceeding 30...50% of the maximum allowable values, a frequency of 20 kHz and an ambient temperature of 25°C, the diodes heat up to a temperature of 80...100 °C

Therefore, it is possible to increase the "collection" of the rectified current from the diode only if it is mounted on a board with short leads, and the mounting sites should be made as large and well-ventilated as possible.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Holidays threaten childhood obesity 03.11.2016

Researchers from the University of Texas at Austin found that during the school holidays, children are the fastest to gain excess weight.

As part of the study, scientists monitored 18 children for three years. As a result, it was possible to prove that "school obesity" is a quite serious and urgent problem.

Indeed, when entering school, many children begin to rapidly gain weight. During the holidays it happens even faster. Apparently, this is due to low physical activity and malnutrition during the period of rest from school.

Now many schools are fighting harmful products in canteens. But these measures are not enough, experts say. Even if a child eats healthy lunch at school, there is no guarantee that he will go for fast food after it.

That is why experts recommend that parents pay attention to the diet of their children, participate in its preparation, and explain why it is so important to eat fruits and vegetables.
