The following coding principles are used by well-known companies such as PANASONIC, HITACHI, etc. There are three main coding methods.

A. The code contains two or three characters (letters or numbers) indicating the operating voltage and rated capacity. Moreover, the letters indicate the voltage and capacity, and the number indicates the multiplier. In the case of a two-digit designation, the operating voltage code is not indicated.

В. The code contains four characters (letters and numbers) indicating the nominal capacity and operating voltage. The letter at the beginning indicates the operating voltage, the subsequent characters indicate the capacitance in picofarads (pF), and the last digit indicates the number of zeros.

There are 2 options for capacitance coding:

a) the first two digits indicate the face value in pF, the third - the number of zeros;
b) the capacitance is indicated in microfarads, the p sign functions as a decimal point.

Below are examples of marking capacitors with a capacity of 4.7 microfarads and an operating voltage of 10 V.

С. If the case size allows, then the code is located in two lines: the capacitance rating is indicated on the top line, and the operating voltage is indicated on the second line. Capacitance can be specified directly in microfarads (µF) or 8 picofarads (pF) with a number of zeros (see method B). For example, the first line - 15, the second line - 35V means that the capacitor has a capacitance of 15 uF and an operating voltage of 35 V.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Is it easy for a whale to feed 10.04.2011

The length of the blue whale can exceed 30 meters, and the weight is 150 tons. Is it easy for such a giant to feed? The whale dives, collects a portion of water with krill (small shrimp) and filters the krill from the water, passing the water through the whiskers.

Biologist Bob Shadwick from the University of British Columbia (Canada), in order to estimate the energy costs associated with feeding the blue whale, measured the volume of the oral cavity on the skeletons of whales available in museums. It amounted to about 80 thousand liters. Knowing the average amount of krill per liter of water, its calorie content, the duration of the dive and the speed of the whale when it swims under water with its mouth wide open, biologists calculated the whale's energy balance.

In one dive, the blue whale swallows 1260 kilograms of shrimp, each of which weighs one to two grams. This is almost half a million kilocalories, which is 77 times more than a whale spends on one dive. Where krill is particularly plentiful, the payoff can be up to 90 times the cost.
