What does the body do with food?

This question can be answered that the body "digests" food. But what is it? Our digestive system does two basic things with the food we eat.

First, it breaks down large food molecules so they can be carried around the body. Large molecules cannot penetrate cells and tissues. Starch must be broken down into sugars and proteins into amino acids before they can penetrate cell membranes.

The second task of the digestive system is to convert "foreign" food molecules into body molecules. Do not forget that we absorb a wide variety of food molecules: milk, meat, coffee, potatoes, fish, and so on. By swallowing a piece of chicken, we cannot replace any part of the body with the protein contained in this chicken.

The human body is made up of human protein molecules, which are usually arranged in a specific order. Therefore, the body must decompose the molecules of oil, flour, fish, fruits and other products into elements. Human proteins, fats and starches must be composed of these elements.

The digestion process is very complex. It begins already in the mouth, where saliva decomposes starches. The process then continues in the stomach, where most of this process takes place. Here, gastric juices are mixed with food. Food, already in the form of a liquid, enters the small intestine. Here, the decomposition of proteins is completed, fats are broken down into smaller components and the assimilation of starch ends.

When digested substances spread along the walls of the small intestine, they are absorbed by the blood and lymph. Thus, nutrition reaches all the cells of the body.

Random interesting fact from the Great Encyclopedia:

What is water?

When scientists try to find life on other planets, they often ask the question: "Is there water there?" As we know, life cannot exist without water.

Water is a tasteless, odorless, colorless liquid that is part of all living beings. It is present in the soil and in the air.

Living organisms consume only the food that is dissolved in water. Living tissues are mainly composed of water. What is in the composition of water? It is a simple combination of two gases: the very light hydrogen gas and the heavier, active oxygen gas.

When hydrogen is burned in oxygen, water is formed. But according to its characteristics, water is not similar to its constituent elements. It has its own properties.

Water has, like many other substances, three basic states: liquid (its usual), solid, called "ice", and gaseous, or "water vapor". The state of water depends on its temperature.

At 0 °C, water changes from liquid to solid, or freezes. At a temperature of 100 °C, water changes from a liquid to a gaseous state. This transition from the visible to the invisible state is called "evaporation".

If you bring a piece of ice into a warm room, it begins to melt. If the room is warm enough, the puddle of water left by the ice will soon disappear. The liquid turned into water vapor. As it cools, water expands in volume.

Water in nature is never pure in the truest sense of the term. It contains dissolved mineral salts, gases, particles of microorganisms.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The first 60 satellites of the global Internet 14.05.2019

The head of SpaceX Elon Musk has unveiled the first batch of satellites that will provide Internet access for all the inhabitants of the planet.

The satellite internet project that SpaceX is building is called Starlink. The first developments began in 2015, and on February 22, 2018, the company launched test prototypes into space. Now that SpaceX engineers have taken into account all the flaws and fixed the problems, the first batch of Starlink is ready to launch.

Sixty satellites will be launched on the night of May 15-16 on a Falcon 9 rocket. In total, Elon Musk plans to launch 12 of these miniature repeaters into orbit, which will provide uninterrupted access to the Network for the entire population of the Earth.

Musk and Space X did not say if there would be a charge for the service, and if so, how much. Although Elon Musk has previously stated that the goal is to keep prices low and beat competitors like OneWeb or Jeff Bezos' Kuiper project.

If the project is successful, people around the world will have internet that is about 40 times faster than the average ISPs offer today.

The plan for further launches will be discussed. Elon Musk plans to cover the entire globe with satellite Internet by the end of 2020. The head of SpaceX intends to carry out the second and subsequent launches of Starlink satellites using the Starship spacecraft, the second stage of the Big Falcon Rocket rocket.
