Three power supplies with switching regulators

Section Power supplies. Homemade power supplies with switching voltage stabilizers in the old days were very difficult to manufacture and configure, since they had to be made entirely on discrete elements. Therefore, in the amateur radio environment, power supplies with linear stabilizers were much more popular. ... >>

Simple intercom

Section Security devices and signaling of objects. A popular intercom today is the intercom. It allows residents of a house or cottage to conduct remote negotiations with a visitor who has pressed the bell button at the entrance or near the gate. A relatively simple intercom design is proposed in this article. The intercom consists of a main amplifier with a handset and a power source, which are located in the apartment in a convenient place for use, and a microphone with an amplifier and a dynamic head, installed on the front door or gate ... >>

IF audio converter 6,5 MHz to 5,5 MHz

Section Television. Your attention is invited to a simple, but fairly well-proven circuit for an IF sound converter from 6,5 MHz to 5,5 MHz. I have tried many circuit solutions, but I stopped on this one, because almost all of its elements are widely available, and the converter starts working without any settings. The K174UR2 chip is an IF amplifier for the image channel of television receivers. In a typical connection, it is usually switched on according to a circuit with a balanced input. ... >>

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Created an artificial pancreas 25.02.2020

Canadian scientists at McGill University in Montreal have created a new artificial pancreas system that will provide vital support for people living with type 1 diabetes.

Insulin pumps have been around for over 30 years. Using these portable devices, people living with diabetes manually select the dose of insulin they need, which is then pumped into the bloodstream. Despite the fact that most patients already use automatic glucose monitors to monitor their blood glucose levels, and do not prick their fingers every time, as they used to, few people manage to maintain glucose targets for a long time. Some people are in a state of hyperglycemia most of the time, accompanied by headaches and weakness, while others regularly experience hypoglycemia, which causes dizziness, confusion and impaired speech.

Scientists at McGill University have developed a "smart" insulin pump, an artificial pancreas with the ability to eliminate high and low glucose levels that reduce quality of life and can cause long-term health complications.

Study leader Dr. Ahmad Haidar began his work when the first commercially available automated glucose sensors were first available. Dr. Haidar has developed an algorithm that, based on the readings from the sensor, tells the insulin pump how much insulin to inject.

"It was a wonderful coincidence," the scientist said in a press release, "because the automatic sensor made it possible to create an artificial pancreas system."

Today, McGill University's Artificial Pancreas Laboratory has 12 full-time researchers and 45 external employees working on the creation of an artificial organ. This is the only scientific team in Canada involved in such developments.

Many of the results obtained in the laboratory are unique. In particular, scientists conducted an experiment on the delivery of the second hormone - pramlintide. The researchers expect that the combined action of pramlintide and insulin will be more effective than insulin alone.
