I want to offer an interesting, in my opinion, and useful device - a portable wind farm. In the summer, my family and I often relax on the shores of the Sea of Azov. Everyone understands that rest becomes much more comfortable if there is a source of electricity. After the manufacture of the windmill, there was no need to save the on-board network of the Zaporozhets car, it became possible to constantly use the radio, lighting, Sapphire-401 TV, and during even a small wind - a car refrigerator.

I have made several versions of wind farms. The one offered now is the simplest and most accessible.

As a generator, the main unit of any power plant, a DC electric motor (U=48 V, I=15 A, n=1200 rpm) is used. The rotor rotates at a frequency of less than 500 rpm, and as the wind intensifies, the speed does not increase, but the charge current increases. A chain sprocket (Z = 10) from a D-6 bicycle engine is installed on the generator shaft. The driven sprocket (2=48) and the entire bottom bracket assembly are taken from an adult bike. The frame had to be sawn and shaped, and then welded. The generator is attached to the frame with M8 bolts.

A roller chain with a pitch of 12,7 mm must be boiled for several minutes in engine oil before installation, and then wiped with a rag. It is better to use a chain from a motorcycle: its service life is much longer.

I made a new, longer carriage shaft. When assembling the carriage assembly, it is necessary to lubricate the bearings with Litol-24 or CIATIM grease. Then an M16 nut is screwed onto the shaft until it stops, a flange is put on (Fig. 3) and clamped with another nut. A disk is attached to the flange with eight M6 bolts (Fig. 4) in such a way that the protrusion of the flange with a diameter of 40 mm enters the disk hole. The flange is made as follows: a disk is machined from steel on a lathe (Fig. 3, pos. 1), then the head of the socket wrench is cut off from the side of the holder up to 24 mm in height, both of these parts are aligned with each other and welded. In this case, if only two blades are to be used, the disk and flange can be replaced with a steel plate (fig. 20, item 1).

The blades are made of duralumin 2 mm thick. After manufacturing, they must be given an arcuate shape. To do this, the blade must be placed on something round (for example, a pipe with a diameter of 800 mm and a length of at least 800 mm) and bent along the line shown in the drawing. Then the blade is attached with six screws to a wooden spoke, which is made from a planed wooden block 36X55X500 mm. The spokes, in turn (using two M8 bolts each), are attached to the disk or plate.

To use a light wind, 5-8 m / s, I made six identical blades. In strong winds, I advise you to use only two. But even with a small wind with two blades, the windmill gives a current of 4-6 A at a voltage of 14V. In principle, you can reduce the length of the blades to 80 cm.

A pin (a piece of pipe 120-150 mm long) is welded to the bottom of the frame, which enters the mast pipe with a small gap. Before installation, it must be lubricated and a brass washer laid, on which the entire assembly will easily rotate in a horizontal plane and, with the help of a removable stabilizer, stand against the wind.

The mast with a length of 3-3,5 m is made of a water pipe with a diameter of 34 mm (at least). A support platform (S 2-3 dm2) is welded to the lower part of the mast, from the end of the pipe, to which, in turn, a pin 150 mm long and 12-15 mm in diameter is welded. When installing the mast, the pin is simply stuck into the ground. At a distance of 1 m from the upper end of the mast pipe, along its circumference, I welded four M10 nuts for attaching guy wires. It is better to make the mast from two parts - for ease of transportation on the trunk of a car. In stationary conditions, it can be made from another material, and longer. Installation of the wind system is well described in the article "Wind Daisy" ("MK", 1988, No. 4).

A few words about the remote control and battery charging. It includes an ammeter and a DC voltmeter of any type, but small sizes are better. An ammeter for a maximum current of 20-30 A, a voltmeter for 15-30 V (assuming that the car's on-board network is 12 V). Decoupling diode - any type for a current of 20 A. As a rheostat, you can use a wire resistance type PPB-50G for 5-10 Ohms, 50 W with refinement: several turns of wire must be removed from the left edge so that the circuit breaks in the working position. You can use any other resistor that can withstand a current of 20 A for a few seconds. And this is why this is necessary: if the battery is fully charged and the voltage on it has reached 14-14,5 V, then we short-circuit the generator with a resistor for three seconds and thereby stop it, while the current is 3-4 times less than the working one. You can then tie one of the blades to the mast. It is impossible to short-circuit the generator sharply, as the mechanism may break. Manually, even with an average wind, stopping by the blade is very dangerous. It is also impossible to reduce the charge current with this resistor, since it will burn out in a few tens of seconds. The charge current can be reduced by adding the number of lamps plugged into the socket. Current-carrying wire - any soft cable (preferably rubberized) with a cross section of 3-4 mm2, which is passed inside the mast pipe.

The operation of the wind power plant for 10 days, even with two blades, showed that this energy is enough: after all, the wind is on the sea almost every day.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

City vacuum cleaner 30.10.2016

According to the World Health Organization, in 2012, air pollution caused the premature death of 3 million people on the planet, and 92% of the population lives in areas where the content of particles in the air exceeds safety standards. In recent years, various attempts have been made to combat the problem. For example, in Beijing, it was proposed to create giant PTFE air bubbles in public spaces, in Lima - huge billboards that purify the air with water, and in Rotterdam - to build a "Tower without smog" with individual booths with clean air.

Another idea from Holland offers an equally radical solution. Its authors, the designers of Envinity Group, have developed a device resembling a vacuum cleaner, but of a large size. The device should be located on the roofs of houses or near sources of air pollution such as factories and plants and pass through itself 80 cubic meters of air per hour.

As conceived by the authors, the "urban vacuum cleaner" will have to purify the air within a radius of 300 m around itself and up to 7 km above it. After suction, the filters of the unit retain 100% of dispersed and 95% of ultrafine particles, and the air purified in this way fully complies with European directives. Dispersed include particles with a size of 2,5-0,1 microns, and ultrafine - particles with a size of less than 100 nanometers.

Although there is not yet a class standard for ultrafine particles of air pollutants, their potentially detrimental effects on the body through entry into the blood through the lungs are already understood.
