Heat pumps are successfully used in various fields of industry and agriculture for the production of heat and cold. Triton offers heat pumps of various capacities for use in lumber drying. Heat pump kilns are used both for pre-drying wood (up to a transport moisture content of 18-22%) and for reaching a final moisture content of 8-10%. cameras.

This is explained by the fact that most of the heat energy (up to 60%) is removed with the exhaust air (with traditional drying methods). When drying lumber using a heat pump, it becomes possible to reuse waste heat, which greatly increases the drying effect and minimizes costs.

The efficiency of a heat pump is characterized by a conversion factor (COP), which characterizes the ratio of the amount of thermal energy generated by a heat pump to 1 kW of electricity consumed. The conversion factor of heat pumps installed in drying chambers ranges from 3,5 to 5. This means that for 1 kWh of electricity consumed, the consumer will receive up to 5 kWh of thermal energy.

On fig. 8.2 shows a diagram of a heat pump.

Principle of operation

The heat pump uses moist air (11) coming from the drying chamber as a heat source. Humid air (11), leaving the stack, passes through the dehumidification evaporator (3), where it is cooled and dried (condensate is removed). Then the dried air is supplied by the main fan (5), through the condenser (2), to the drying chamber. As the air passes through the condenser, it heats up. The auxiliary heater (6) can heat the air up to the required temperature. Humidity is regulated by opening and closing valves (8 and 10) of the supply and exhaust channels.

The heat pump also uses the heat from the outside air (13) (low-grade heat source). Air is supplied to the heat pump evaporator (4). If necessary, the air is preheated before being fed to the evaporator. In the evaporator, the process of freon boiling takes place, the vapors of which enter the compressor, where they are compressed with an increase in temperature. The heated refrigerant enters the condenser to heat the air. The cooled air (14) is removed by the heat pump fan (7). On fig. 8.3 drying chamber with heat pump.

Installing heat pumps allows you to heat the air to the required temperature and humidity. At the same time, there are no harmful emissions, the specified temperature regime is strictly maintained.

Energy from space for Starship 08.05.2024

Producing solar energy in space is becoming more feasible with the advent of new technologies and the development of space programs. The head of the startup Virtus Solis shared his vision of using SpaceX's Starship to create orbital power plants capable of powering the Earth. Startup Virtus Solis has unveiled an ambitious project to create orbital power plants using SpaceX's Starship. This idea could significantly change the field of solar energy production, making it more accessible and cheaper. The core of the startup's plan is to reduce the cost of launching satellites into space using Starship. This technological breakthrough is expected to make solar energy production in space more competitive with traditional energy sources. Virtual Solis plans to build large photovoltaic panels in orbit, using Starship to deliver the necessary equipment. However, one of the key challenges ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Cosmic building blocks of life discovered 17.06.2017

The European Southern Observatory (ESO) reports that astronomers observing stars like the Sun in the very early stages of their existence managed to fix traces of methyl isocyanate, a chemical compound that is the "building block of life."

Observations were carried out using the ALMA telescope - Atakama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array. The presence of complex prebiotic organic molecules of methyl isocyanate has been recorded in the multiple star system IRAS 16293-2422. This object lies about 400 light-years away in the large star-forming region Rho Ophiuchi in the constellation Ophiuchus.

Astronomers have discovered unique lines of chemical compounds in the warm, dense interiors of gas and dust cocoons that surround stars in their earliest stages of evolution. It turned out that clouds of methyl isocyanate surround each of the young stars of the system.

"This family of organic molecules is involved in the synthesis of peptides and amino acids, which, in the form of protein compounds, form the biological basis of the form of life known to us," the scientists say.
The ALMA observations are expected to shed light on the processes that led to the formation of the solar system and the origin of life on Earth.

“The result is particularly interesting, since these protostars are very similar to our Sun at the very beginning of its history. The conditions around them are favorable for the formation of planets the size of the Earth. By finding prebiotic molecules there, we may have received another piece of the puzzle that needs to be added, to understand the origin of life on our planet," experts say.
