A single-blade wind turbine scheme provides generator rotation 1,5-2 times faster than 2-blade and 3-blade analogs with the same efficiency, which reduces the weight and cost of the generator by the same amount. The neodymium-iron-boron rare-earth magnet generator is 50% made of fiberglass, an unconventional material for generators, which reduces its weight and simplifies production technology.

The use of electricity from the wind is economically viable at average annual wind speeds of more than 5 m/s, or in the absence (or irregular supply) of mains electricity.

Particular attention should be paid not only to the power of the wind turbine (namely, the wind turbine, and not the inverter included in the kit), but also at what wind speed this power can be obtained.

Some sellers of finished products represent inflated figures. It is not difficult to calculate the power that a wind turbine with a propeller of a specific diameter can deliver. The power of the wind turbine practically depends only on the wind speed V and the diameter of the propeller D, and all other factors - the number of blades, their weight, area, profile, generator, bearings do not give a large error.

Simplified formula for calculating the power actually delivered by the wind depending on the wind speed and propeller diameter: P(kW) = D2V3/7000, with an accuracy of ±20% (depends on the efficiency of the propeller and generator); tolerance + 20% - an ideal wind turbine, its price will increase by 2-3 times, and -20% resembles the first and inefficient windmill of an amateur enthusiast. With equal power of the wind turbine, choose the one with the larger diameter of the wind wheel (blade).

When choosing a wind turbine, it must be borne in mind that the most cost-effective power output (under the wind conditions of a particular area) is obtained at a 2-fold average annual wind speed, which can be called nominal.

For the Moscow region, Vav year = 4 m/s, and Vnom = 8 m/s.

For a wind turbine with a propeller diameter of 5 m, the power is P = 52-(4x2)3/7000 = 1,83 kW. Thus, the rated power of the wind turbine will not exceed 2 kW with a propeller diameter of 5 m, and more powerful wind turbines with the same propeller diameter will not give practically any gain, but their price will be higher.

Of course, where there is a lot of open space (steppes, hills, rugged terrain, "endless virgin" fields, near the sea), the installation of wind turbines is most efficient, the wind speed is greater than the "average", and most importantly, more stable. Therefore, even in one locality (for example, St. Petersburg) there are places that are most attractive for installing wind turbines (on the shores of the Gulf of Finland) and less attractive - in a residential area among houses.

For St. Petersburg (as well as in coastal and steppe regions), the average wind speed per year Vav year = 5,5 m/s, Vnom = 11 m/s, and the nominal power will be equal to Р = 52-(5,5x2)3 /7000 = 4,75 kW, which corresponds to a wind turbine with a rated power of 5 kW and the same propeller with a diameter of 5 m.

Savings calculations

The resource of a gearless wind turbine is more than 10 years.

The average electricity generation will be 800-1200 kWh per month, that is, about 12 kWh per year, which, with the cost of mains electricity of 000 rubles (in St. Petersburg) per 1,85 kWh, will save more than 1 rubles per year. Thus, the entire payback period of wind turbines will be about 22 years at an average annual wind speed of 000 m/s.

And if compared with autonomous electricity from a gas generator, whose cost of 1 kW / hour is about 7 rubles, then the payback period of the wind turbine will be correspondingly 5 times less, that is, no more than 1 year.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Multicolored photons 25.07.2017

Despite the huge amount of research in the field of quantum computing, universal quantum computers continue to be a purely theoretical concept. Let us remind our readers that the basis of any quantum computer or communication system is quantum bits called qubits. Qubits differ from traditional bits in that, in addition to the two basic states, 1 or 0, they can be in a third state - in a state of superposition, when the value of a qubit is both 1 and 0. This, in turn, allows using one qubit to perform two parallel computing operations.

The connection of individual qubits into a computing system is carried out using the phenomenon of quantum entanglement. At the same time, a system of two qubits is already capable of performing four parallel operations, and a system of three qubits is capable of performing eight. And a system with dozens of qubits is capable of computing much faster than traditional computers.

However, the state of superposition and the phenomenon of quantum entanglement are extremely fragile things that are destroyed at the slightest impact on them from the outside. And scientists from the Institute INRS (Institut national de la recherche scientifique), Canada, have proposed a very interesting and promising alternative to qubits - multidimensional quantum bits (quDit), based on the use of "colorful" photons of light. Moreover, these researchers created a quantum chip on which two quDits were created, with the help of which research was carried out on this new quantum technology.

An optical cavity is located on the surface of the quantum chip, into which two entangled photons of light are launched. Each of the photons can have 10 basic quantum states determined by its wavelength (color) and be in a state of superposition, in which it can be red AND green AND blue AND yellow at the same time. These colors were given conditionally, since infrared photons were used in practice.

Thus, each of the "colorful" photons is capable of being in 100 different states, and a system of two such photons, quDits, is equivalent in performance (the number of parallel operations performed by it) to a system with 12 classical qubits entangled with each other. "For the first time, we have managed to obtain a multidimensional quantum state in a fairly simple way," says Michael Kues, lead researcher. "And our next task will be to use such a multidimensional quantum system to perform practical calculations."
