The main nodes in this system will be sources of electricity and storage (just like in the case of wind turbines). The remaining devices can be classified as auxiliary, but also very important. So solar panels are the source of electricity. Their number and total capacity depend on the volume of electricity consumption, time of year and region of residence. When calculating the required power of sources, it should be taken into account that most energy-intensive appliances consume electricity for a short time, so the average power consumption in an average family can be from 200 to 600 Wh or 4,8-14,4 kWh per day. It is necessary to calculate how many solar panels can produce the power you need per day. If, at the same time, you try to reduce costs by using more economical appliances or by eliminating some of them (for example, replacing an electric kettle with a conventional one heated by gas or stoves), then the cost of purchasing power supplies can be reduced. Batteries are energy storage devices. There are many different types of them, which we will not talk about now. The main advice when buying drives can be a recommendation to buy several batteries of a smaller capacity instead of one large one. It is necessary to buy drives at the same time from the same batch, then they can be connected together if necessary and get a large capacity without harm to the batteries. The most rational would be to connect your own system to each room of the house, when each room is responsible for its own source (or a group of them) and its own drive. Between the source and the drive there must be wires through which, in fact, electricity is supplied, as well as a charge-discharge controller for the battery. The controller allows you to prevent overcharging the drive and protect it from excessive, harmful discharge. For some reason, it is generally accepted that the controller is only an additional, completely unnecessary and costly device, which also draws electricity. But actually it is not. It is better to buy a controller once than to constantly spend money on disabled drives. Partially, the function of the controller can be performed by an electricity converter from 12 to 220 volts, but it is used only in 220 volt networks and is not able to control the recharge of the drive. Wires that go from the source to the controller, from the controller to the battery and from the battery to the converter, it is desirable to acquire the maximum cross section. The larger the cross section, the less will be the loss of electricity during transmission. Any wires can lead from the converter to the sockets. However, if you are going to arrange a 12 volt network in the house, then there are special warnings for wires. First of all, try to also purchase a wire with a large cross section. The longer the wire from the battery to the devices, the greater the loss of electricity. Try to make the system so that the wires have a minimum number of connections, as there will also be current losses on the connections. In this situation, it would also be most rational to equip each room in the house with a separate network with its own source and drive. This will help keep the length of the wires to a minimum. Separately, I want to say about the converters. These devices allow you to get standard 220 volts in the network. At the same time, they require a certain amount of electricity for their own work. In addition, there may also be power losses in the conversion process itself. That is why it is recommended to use converters only for those devices that cannot be converted to 12 volts. These appliances include laptops, irons and other heating elements, as well as some motorized appliances. Pumps, vacuum cleaners, refrigerators, mobile phone chargers and even washing machines can be made for 12 volts.
