For those who consider it possible to assemble wind turbines with their own hands, I recommend using a generator from cars and trucks as an electric generator. For example, a generator from a PAZ bus gives high stability of the output voltage (nominal 24 V) even at a blade rotation speed of 500 rpm. The electrical part of the station can be made up of: a G273A generator from a KamAZ vehicle with a voltage of 24 V and a power of 2200 W; at 5000 rpm, it can theoretically develop a power of 560 W if at least 4 hours a day the wind was blowing at a speed of 6 m/s.

The simplest option for converting the mechanical energy of a wind turbine into electrical energy in rural conditions is to use an automobile or tractor valve generator with a voltage of 14 or (24) 28 V. The generator has a stator winding, a rectifier and a voltage regulator. The regulator is configured in such a way that a constant voltage is maintained at the output (deviation - up to 5% when the rotor speed changes in the range of 1:12 in automobile and 1:4 in tractor generators). Thanks to this regulator, a car generator can generate DC electricity with a practically constant voltage with significant fluctuations in the speed of the wind turbine.

The torque is transmitted from the wind turbine shaft (minimum rotational speed without loss of output voltage stability 200-300 rpm) to the generator shaft (rated rotational speed - 5000 rpm) directly or using a multi-stage gearbox, which greatly complicates the design, as well as its reliability (durability).

To equalize the power given by the wind turbine when the wind speed changes, a battery is also needed here. It accumulates energy in strong winds and releases it in calm weather or in light winds.

The choice of battery capacity depends on many factors: the average speed and frequency of the wind in the area, the power of wind turbines, the power of electricity consumers, the duration of maximum consumption per day.

The rotating housing of the generator is made long enough (0,5 m) to be able to fix the blade (blades) at the rear on the hinges.

The support for installing a wind turbine can be steel, lattice, modular. With a height of one module of 2,5 m, the design allows you to "gain" the required height, depending on the type of terrain and surrounding buildings. In the upper part of the windmill support, a "rocker" is installed, with a vertical axis of rotation. A wind generator is installed at one end of the rocker arm, and a counterweight is installed at the other (by analogy with Fig. 2.1).

Some examples and conclusions

I saw a conventional asynchronous AC motor connected to the blade in a gearless version and turned on in the generation mode (at the output of 220 V) on a working wind turbine model assembled in a "handicraft" way in the Vologda region by one Moscow "designer". In this case, the apparent savings are obvious - there is no need for expensive inverters, a charge controller and batteries, because the current flows directly from the generator into the energy circuit of a village house, but the efficiency of the device is low.

The output power of the installation is 350 W, the 100-W light bulb flickers strongly due to the instability of the generator speed (wind speed), in addition, electrical wires more than 50 m long with a voltage of 220 V from the wind turbine to the house are not the best solution in terms of security. Well, of course, the most important thing is to connect anything else (especially from expensive household appliances) to such a wind generator is simply dangerous - it can fail due to instability. Therefore, it is still better to use professionally manufactured high-power wind turbines, although they will cost much more.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

The longest and longest lightning 26.09.2016

The Committee of Experts of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) approved two world records for electrical spark discharges in the atmosphere: the longest lightning - more than 300 km - was recorded in 2007 in Oklahoma in the USA, and the longest in time - more than 7,7 seconds - August 30, 2012 in the Provence - Alpes - Cote d'Azur region in southern France.

"A lightning flash over Oklahoma in 2007 covered a horizontal distance of 321 km (199,5 miles), and lightning over Southern France in 2012 lasted for 7,74 seconds, as determined by the WMO evaluation committee," she said in a statement. The WMO emphasizes that lightning "is for the first time included in the official archive of extreme weather and climate events maintained by the WMO Commission for Climatology." It records record values of heat, cold, wind speed, rain and other weather phenomena.

As WMO Secretary-General Petteri Taalas noted in this regard, "lightning is a major natural hazard that claims many lives every year." Better monitoring of such extreme events "will help improve public safety," he said. Determining the longest and longest lightning to date has become possible thanks to a significant improvement in the technique of remotely studying electrical discharges in the atmosphere, the WMO explained.

The WMO expert committee, which decided the issue of registering "record" lightning, included specialists from the USA, France, Spain, China, Morocco, Argentina and Great Britain. They not only named "winners", but also proposed a new version of the term "lightning discharge". Now it is characterized as "a series of electrical processes that occur sequentially", while previously it was customary to focus on a short interval of lightning existence - no more than a second.

The WMO emphasizes that the official registration of lightning records indicates "the ongoing improvement of the regional lightning observation system, as well as measuring instruments."
