The period of time required for the implementation of the project from initial development to the start of operation of the facility depends on the scale of the project and on the coordination of the participants at any stage. For example, a government agency issuing a building permit in one country takes less time to evaluate a site than a corresponding agency in other countries.

At the stage of a feasibility study, it is important to take into account the need for a wind turbine to constantly monitor its operation in order to eliminate the possibility of irrational use.

Maintenance of low-power autonomous wind turbines

When operating low-power wind turbines, the following rules must be followed:

1. provide the necessary modes of operation of the battery. For example, nickel-cadmium batteries periodically need to be fully discharged in order to operate at full capacity;

2. to constantly monitor the battery overcharge sensor;

3. Regularly service the inverters so that they can withstand the large input voltage fluctuations that result from the battery charge/discharge cycle.

Maintenance of large wind energy systems

As soon as a wind turbine or wind farm has started generating electricity, it is necessary to regularly monitor the operation of each wind turbine in its composition.

In the case of large commercial wind farms, in order to facilitate the monitoring of individual installations, it is recommended to connect the wind turbines via a remote monitoring computer network.

Information is collected regarding the impact of wind turbines on the ecosystem, noise level, appearance of the territory, etc., as well as the volume of electricity produced is recorded. Such information can be used to improve the performance of wind turbines.

Most turbines have 2 independent shutdown systems for maintenance:

1. aerodynamic brake (i.e. the removal of a wind wheel from under the wind or a change in the angle of rotation of the blades);

2. mechanical brake (usually disc brakes on the axis of the wind wheel or multiplier);

The wind wheel and tower must be strong enough to withstand the strongest gusts of wind. When operating in cold climates, the blades must be equipped with special devices to prevent them from icing. Lightning protection must also be provided.

Service procedure

When carrying out maintenance, the relevant safety regulations must be observed. Safety rules and recommendations must be followed even at the stage of wind turbine installation, which will improve the reliability of its operation.

At the stage of equipment installation, all electrical work is carried out in accordance with accepted instructions. For wind turbines connected to the mains, there are more detailed instructions.

It is very important that when developing a wind turbine, the requirements for its maintenance are taken into account, in particular:

protection of rotating elements inside the power unit of the wind turbine;
methods to prevent rotation of the turbine rotor during maintenance;
difficulties of working in the limited space of the power unit of the wind turbine;
fire alarm in the power block and tower;
ladders for climbing and resting places during the ascent to the tower;
provision of work in special clothing;
specific hazards when working alone and methods of communication.

Any person who intends to work with a wind turbine must undergo a special briefing. Training covers a wide range of knowledge, from knowledge of emergency situations to maintenance of all types of equipment in the wind turbine.
