Hi all. I have a philosophical thought. Humanity will die out after all. Moreover, it will die out not because it immediately pollutes its entire habitat, but because of laziness. Yes, yes - exactly from her. Moreover, the most paradoxical thing is that laziness is the engine of progress, but at the same time, this very progress generates even greater laziness in a person. Why am I saying all this? Well, it was inspired by another achievement of overseas microelectronics. Judge for yourself - there is one microcircuit with 16 pins. Using it, one resistor, two LEDs and two capacitors, a universal charger is made for all types of batteries. That is, for LiIon/NiCd/NiMH.

Yes, look at the diagram for yourself:

Universal LiIon, NiCd, NiMH battery charger based on MAX1501 chip. Memory scheme

So how can you live in harmony with yourself? It is clear that as a radio amateur, I must completely independently develop a terrible charger circuit, which will contain about a dozen transistors, and then proudly present it to the public. But how can one ignore such absolute simplicity? Okay, lyrics aside, let's look at the diagram. Let's start with the main parameters of the MAX1501 chip:

Type of rechargeable batteries LiIon, NiCd, NiMH
Maximum charging current, A 1,4
Output voltage in charge mode, V:
LiIon 4,1/4,2
NiCd/NiMH 4,5/4,95
Operating temperature range, C -40:+85

It should also be noted that if a LiIon battery is charged in splendid isolation, then three NiCd or NiMH batteries are connected at once. Well, then, a few features that cannot leave anyone indifferent: there is no need for a heatsink on the microcircuit, despite the considerable current; adjustable maximum charge current; temperature control and charge shutdown at a certain temperature; programmable timer for maximum charge time; automatic recharging when the connected battery is discharged; Limiting the charging current when the device is turned on. This is the list. Now about the charging procedure itself - it happens like this. After turning on, the microcircuit begins to charge the battery with a low current - 10% of the maximum charging current set by resistor R1.

When the battery voltage reaches 2,8 volts, it receives a hefty kick in the form of the full value of the charging current, that is, the fast charge mode is activated. Well, when the voltage reaches 4,5 or 4,1 volts, depending on the type of battery, the charging current begins to decrease, and after it decreases by 30% of the nominal value, the HL1 LED lights up, which means the end of the charge. The HL2 LED lights up during the entire charge cycle. I won’t even provide a plate with the components - well, there’s absolutely no need.

Just a couple of notes:

1. Capacitors C1 and C2 are ceramic.
2. Resistor R1, which determines the charging current, is calculated by the formula: R=1000*(1.4/I), where I is the required charging current of the battery.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Home cleaning promotes relaxation 17.10.2016

American scientists have proven that home cleaning promotes relaxation. In their opinion, this activity can overcome the most persistent stress and chronic depression.

Specialists from the Center for Mental Disorders in the USA are sure that by putting your home in order, you can harmonize yourself both physically and mentally. So, during the experiment, scientists observed the volunteers during the cleaning of the apartment. Cleaning, some experienced increased stress from the inability to throw away unnecessary things. But those participants who cleaned vigorously and at a pace strengthened their physical condition and involuntarily lifted their spirits.

The researchers noticed that those people who devoted their free time at least once a week to a domestic robot suffered from mental disorders 20% less than those who avoided this kind of activity.

Scientists explain these results quite simply: a decrease in the amount of dust, additional physical activity and satisfaction from cleanliness in the house will definitely have a positive effect on the general condition of the body of a hardworking owner.
